Have the dreaded roof panel problem after its been repainted

Last December I got my hood and roof panel repainted because the clear coat started peeling. Last month I noticed some spots on the roof panel were kinda coming through the paint, almost look like dirt in the paint on some spots. I went back to the place that painted it and they said ok no problem we will paint it again. I get a phone call from them stating that my roof panel is defective (yes I know about the TSB) and that is whats causing the paint to do that. I had no problems whatsoever with the panel before I had it painted last year (except for 1 spot of clear coat). Is it a coincidence that its starting now, the same time that I got it repainted ? They are willing to repaint it but with no guarantees, he said it will happen again

yes the chicken pox will happen again. It comes down to removing the adhesive.


Sucks because it isn't a cheap fix.

Its just ironic that it started after they repainted it (13 yrs later)

Yes fresh painted will make it worse and the only fix is to remove the panel, been there done it. Even had PPG come out to the shop with their best products, no good. The volatile chemicals cause the urethane to bleed thru even more. Black cars are worse for some reason, guess the heat from the sun.
