Gto ?
A guy at work just bought a '04 GTO and wants to race to see what his car will do. I was just wondering how you guys think it will turn out and what I can expect. All I have is a shift kit,K-N-N and Diablo programmed.

Pewter Metallic- 2001 Trans Am WS.6
I'd say you'll take him. Basically the same engine. The GTO is a pig, my buddy has one, modded a bit, but the thing wieghed in at 3800 and change. The 04's have a bad wheelhop problem, also the IRS chews up more power than our straight axle setup. So chances are that your putting a tiny bit more power to the ground than he is, which combined with you being a bit lighter, means you have a very good chance of winning.
I have this article from some magazine that dynoed both a 6 speed fbody and 6 speed vette of the same years, and the fbody dynoed more than the vette. So just cause he is rated more on paper, doesnt mean he necessaraly has more.

yes i agree you should win, but its a drivers race. Is his car a 6spd or an A4? If the GTO is an auto i'd say you should definately win, but if he has a 6spd it will be closer if he can drive.
I remember reading in motor trend or some magazine back in '04 that they were dissappointed that despite the increase in power that the GTO was a few ticks slower than the 2002 LS1 F-bodys.

If he's stock you should take him. Up top is where my GTO shines. I think you'd have problems at freeway speeds say 60-130 he'd have a better chance but roll racing and dig racing you'll have the edge. Post back up because I'm kinda curious myself how close my GTO will run with a semi-stock f-body. I would never expect to win that race but it'd be close enough that I think it would run with a shitty driver. My f-body would walk my GTO with no problems so I can't really run those 2 for comparison. That and it's hard as hell to drive 2 cars at the same time.

I would think you take him, I went to Firebird Race track in Phx. Az; there was 04 GTO A4 LS1 stock w/K&N Filter and a '06GTO A4 LS2 was told it was stock (did not look under hood), the '04 turned a 13.97 at 100MPH and the '06 turned his best 13.23 @106MPH my best was 13.68 @ 103.5MPH I have a M6.
