Fuel Filter
I am thinking about changing the fuel on my 01 T/A but i have'nt even looked at it yet. Does it take a special tool to get it off? and how much does one cost?

My Formula has 83,XXX miles on it. Is it worth changin the fuel filter? What are the benefits?
Also, is replacing the fuel pump with an aftermarket one a good idea, or do you only do this when you have done a ton of mods already?

One end has a nut on it so on that end you will only need a wrench. The other end needs a fuel line quick connector tool. You could probably get one from Schucks, Cregan, Krager, or Napa store probably around 20.00 or less. But always remember that when you remove it I always start at the nut end because you will beable to relieve the fuel pressure and fuel spray in a controlled way. These facts are from my 2001 GM service manual. Also I had to use the fuel connector tool when I changed my filter last year with 63,000 miles.

I change my fuel filter every 10,000-15,000 miles. If you get a clogged filter it could fry your fuel pump. Its just cheap insurance in my mind.

ya when u take it off and turn it it vertical, fuel should just come rushing out when you let your finger off the end. if it kinda dribbles...just imagine how much harder it was for the pump to dribble fuel through it when you decided to take on a stang...

No special tools, just a couple of wrenches ( I just use adjustables), a bucket to catch the gas, and a pair of fingers to pinch the other end of the filter to squeeze it off. Find Schrader valve at fuel rail under hood to relieve some fuel pressure.
I change mine every 10 or so k miles. It was running like crap one day and a mechanic friend recommended I try the filter. What a difference and I do it more often now.
