As much as I would like to see that happen, I bet you many people here would bitch about it and say its not worth swapping, to go ahead to buy an LS1 car.
But if you absolutely needed to swap as in no other option im guessing it would take about 3500-4000 for the swap. It shouldn't be as hard as going from a V6-V8 because its going from an 8 to an 8. You would probably still need to get new motor mounts and I don't think the transmission will bolt up perfectly so it would need some work. Suspension should be good and the same for the gears but you might want to upgrade it later. But good luck with the swap hope I helped you a little bit

    thanks i appreciate it!
and it will probably have to start out an LT1 cuz i cant afford to buy an LS1 right now so i was hoping to buy a higher milage LT1 for about $5k and when the engine starts dying, swap it out in a couple years. and if i could find a decent car for cheap enough that would probably be worth it.. what do you think?

Sounds good but if your looking for an older LT1 car with lots of miles, you would probably spend less then 5 grand.

hopefully.. but i do want to start out with a car in good condition, so im willing to pay a little bit more to avoid ending up with a car someone took shitty care of. i definitely dont want all my money going to restoring it... i have too many expensive plans for it lol

Good luck. I would go for a rebuilt LT1, and mod it to beat LS1s. My .02.

Loyd Elliot kits for the LT1s are bad ass, best bang for the buck IMHO

if you have enough to buy an lt1...you should have enough to buy a crashed ls1..and fix it from then on..(if you don't plan to sell it)

that would be awesome being able to rebuild a wrecked car but i need it as a DD so i need something that runs when i get it lol

do u guys have any idea how much rebuilding an LT1 would be compared to swapping in an LS1?

Why not buy a cheap high mileage LS1? I just passed on a 98 T/A with 146,000 miles. He was asking $5300. I'll bet I could've gotten it for $5k. It ran and shifted perfectly, just several minor cosmetic issues.

Dont let these guys discourage you bro, i picked up a 94 t/a w 70k miles for 4300, i swapped an ls1 front end, im going to get it repainted and im saving to throw a cammed LS2 into it. Yes i could easily put a procharger or an le2/le3 kit on it but i want to put an LS2 into it so im going to do it. If you want to do it.

ummm sorry to burst your bubble... but it is actually more expensive to go from an lt1 to an ls1... it is cheaper to do a 98-02 v6 to ls1 swap.... and yes i did my research.... for many months......

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

i think it would be cooler if you just built up the lt1 [won't take much, just some exhaust/intake porting and good tune] then slap on the front clip of a late 4th gen

Well if you are really interested in this. it would probibly cost you @ 6,000.00 to do. I have done a V6 to V8 conversion. But going to a LS1 you need to swap the whole engine and body wire harness for the new engine. 99+ going to a ls1 from a v6 is easier. 98 is its own year. and LT1 to LS1 needs the whole cars body harness updated. If you can get a wrecked 99+ car that would be the best route to take to get all the parts you need to swap it over.

Lt1 are alright but opti is crap if it gets wet that whole new story. ls1 is way better design
but it lacks low rpm torque like lt1 has

    Not even.

A complete, brand new LS1 is $4860 from GM Parts direct, and you can get a complete LS2 for $5721. Not bad deals at all

It all depends on if you have friends in high places. Im getting my hands on all brand new stuff, motor, harness ,and computerFOR 1998 t/A for 3000k even off my gfs dad becasuse a customer that originally ordered it never took delivery and its been two years since they put a deposit on it. I wasnt gonna pass on it even if I didnt swap it in. Seriously if you guys ever need stuff from becool or painless, or hypertec let me know! the Custom Jeep place I work for is a Dealer for those guys. I can special order it for you at a good price! This forum is awesome so far!
