Can alternators have a whistling sound when they are brand new. I just can't stand hearing that sound when all I want to hear is my SLP Loud Mouth exhaust.

^^^They should not if they are brand new. If they are brand rebuilt, tho, they may. Especially if the brand rebuilt is cheaply done. Usually it is a bad bearing in the alt that makes a loud noise.

My T/A has 115,000 miles. Real Clean. Couldn't believe it had so many miles, for how clean it was. Runs strong though. The alternator is probably original. I don't know how long they usually last before you need to replace them. The sound is enough for me to replace it. Is a stock replacement the best choice? Any opinions?

Should be fine. I think stock alts are near a 100 amp rating.

alternator
I have aftermarket Alpine DVD player radio and a300 watt amp and a 1000 watt amp. I was thinking maybe the baerings were burnt out from pulling so much power? I think I might try looking into a 200 amp alternator. Might be over kill. Any body know a good aftermarket brand?
