Difference Between Trans Am and Trans Am WS6?
Hi all,
My camaro is finally up for sale and I am making the move to a newer (98+) Trans AM just as I have been wanting for song long!! My question then becomes, what is/are the exact and technical differences between a Base Trans and a WS6 equipped one? I know the obvious Ram Air/Hood and Badging, but anything else? I am only trying to learn because I am not finding many WS6's in my price range that are what I want. I can however, find several base Trans's that are affordable, and would then have money left to do the hood and airbox right off the bat. Please help me out as I need to figure if I should wait it out or go ahead and work on a base model.

more specific?
I have a decent idea of the differences. But I was hoping for more specific help, how much better is the WS6 truely? How much is needed to match it with a base trans am?

Suspension is the major thing (WS6 suspension pkg) also on WS6 you get 17" rims instead of 16" with 275's all around i'm not sure if the regular T/A have 275 all around... Also some minor engine upgrades along with exhaust with a hurst short throw shifter... One of the biggest upgrades to the WS6 is obviously the Ram Air hood which adds 25hp est. but only wen moving (duh)

Regular TA is 245/50-16. I'd say unless you want the factory numbers on your door sticker, to just get a TA. Especially if you have the money for the hood and lid.

Not all WS6's come with hurst shifters. Mine didn't. But the main differences are
17" rims instead of 16"
stiff suspension
thicker front sway bar.
ram air hood and air box
2.75" exhaust.
and most important of all. a ws6 bading under the passenger tail light

alright, thanks for the input. It's kind of what I had thought for the most part. Anymore comments are welcome!

I read this somewhere before but I thought it was cool..
A Trans Am looks like it could kick your ass
A WS6 looks like it's coming over to do it.

Go with the base transam , it will be easy to and cheap to go from there, everyone is giving u goood in put. So just listen to them. Mainly the hood and air box,the suspention is stiffer,(biggersway bars, and reaiiy good struts an shocks) and that is about it.

Yeah but unless you wanna run around like all the rice burners do with add on primered parts, you need to figure in the cost of painting the hood, if not the whole car, and the 17" wheels look oh so much better than the 16's IMO (of course that doesn't matter if you have the funds to replace them with aftermarket parts)
I'd go WS6 and save your self the trouble.

Blavk- 2002 WS6
The shocks sucks on the WS6 can't even count that as an upgrade. You pretty much get a purty WS6 badge on your rear bumper and a badass hood. Enough for me though
