Medium Blue Metallic- 1999 Pontiac Trans Am
Is changing the rear (exterior) quarter panels difficult?
I am thinking about trading the rear metal quarter panels off my firebird onto the trans am (same color&fade obviously), b/c the t/a came with a noticeable scratch. How difficult is this? I might remove the rear bumper too to do the ceta mod if it is necessary to get to the quarter panels anyway. Thanks for the help my haynes doesnt say much about it.

The quarters are not removable they are part of the unibody that's why they are steel and not plastic.
You can cut them out with a torch thoughCraig

...Uh...So can I ask you this? If your arm had a scratch in it, would you cut it off and put in a prosthetic one?

haha quarter panels are spot welded High strength steel panels. In order to put a new one on you would need to drill out all the spot welds, align the new panel, weld the new one on, and paint it.... ps i left alot out. Its very pains taking... and would require re painting any way

I'll put my input this way. I got hit in the driver RQ panel on freaking easter. the lady was nice enough to let me know, but the whole QP was taken out by her new f-150 bumper. It took a professional body shop almost a whole business week to replace the thing, but that included painting it to match my paint. The owner ( a family friend) moved one guy over and did it himself since he'd had to do it to his wife's car (identical to mine). So I would guess it's not easy or something you want to try over a free afternoon. (or weekend)

Well I guess that pretty well answers the question. I always thought it was a separate panel because it doesnt look like its directly connected to the B pillar. Thanks for the info though!

Theres not really a B pillar on our cars. They are called sail panels, but yes it is one piece all the way up to the roof.
