Bang in hatch area over big bumps
Hey guys, my car makes this banging sound from the hatch when i go over big bumps. I think its the hatch, but its shut and feels very tight. Does anyone else have this problem? If so what was it and how did you fix it?
Thanks!

I havent had this problem. But maybe your lights could be loose. Pull back the carpet and make sure all those bolts are tight. Just a thought tho.

im pritty sure that the hatch has a litle leway.. i think it might b normal tho. when it is closed, try pushin it down while its closed.. see if it goes down anymore. if so thats what it probably is.

Have you checked your spare tire or jack?

My Formula has this problem, and I'm pretty sure on it a bad spring was the cause. When I went over large bumps, especially with passengers in the back, the wheel would bottom out creating a loud 'thud'. Your issue may be different though.

I also had the same problem, come to find out like easyericvan said, it was my spare tire bouncing up and down.. LOL.

My first thought was the spare tire and jack. Second thought was a lower control arm needed torqued down but that's more of a pop or thud and sounds like it's coming from under the rear seat. Check your jack.

If it's not the jack/spare, check the bump stops on the bottom of the hatch. They are at the far rear corners of the hatch and keep it tight. I had this problem on my old 93 bird, those bump stops were toast. Even if yours look fine, screw them out a bit to keep the hatch tighter.
