baffle in ram air hood?

has anyone taken out the baffle in the ram air hood, i just put in a volant cold air intake, and it seems like its having a hard time getting air to it since those cones sit right infront of the nostrils, but with the baffles i dont think much air gets in, is there a problem with water getting in there?

Pulled mine out right after I got the car in 2001 and installed the Brian Green setup. Have never had any problems, though I will admit that my car doesn't see any more rain than it has to.

i pulled mine out. just drill out the rivets and the back one will come out. the front ones are glued in. i just pulled on them and they came off.

i dont drive it in the rain and i dont spray right on the nostrils when washing it. i just did it last week. i have a K and N filter too so i dont worry too much about it, i just dont try to get it wet.

Been debaffled since `99 driven in all types of weather and never had a problem.

what kind of setup do you have 9t8w66, because i have the volant, and those two cones site right in front of the nostrils, if you have a lid that gets air from underneath right? i'm just worried that with the volant, if any water got in there at all it would hit those filters immediatly

I have a regular lid and filter setup
My advice would be to remove the rear baffle only and leave the scoop baffles alone. that way they deflect water down away from the filters.

Mine has been without the baffles for years. Installed the BGRA (Brian Greene Ram Air) which seals the ram air hood to the intake in mine as well. I don't drive in rain on purpose but living in Iowa I've been in some major downpours with no probems ever.

I took my baffles out and loved it. Then I wanted to put lights in the ram air, and I needed something to reflect the light off of, so I put the front ones back in and put Aluminum Tape on them.

Totally worth it IMO.

I removed my baffles. I have JAAM ram air, SLP lid, and K&N filter. I've driven in some pretty heavy rains including once on the interstate behind a semi spraying tons of water up at me. Traffic slowed down to about 50 mph because the heavy rain caused reduced visability. I was worried so when I got home I took off the lid and no water got passed the K&N. The filter was wet on one side and dry on the other.
Just don't go too more then 1/4 throttle in the rain and don't spray the hose directly in the nostrils when washing the car.

.... or you can do like I did and remove all the baffles, seal the airbox to the hood ,and in case of rain apply rainshields in under 10 seconds without even having to pop the hood

99ws6ramair, did you notice any kind of horsepower or mpg gain when you took out the baffles, and where do you get those rain seals?

Yes I did. Technically speaking you gain 1% hp increase for every 10 deg temp drop of inducted air. I made everything myself back in '99 and has held up and worked wonderfully.
