99 formula ws6 conversion questions
i am wondering - i am parting out a '99 ws6 car and it seems that there were only 175 formula ws6 coupes done in '99 - is this right ? i am confused about the car having "trans-am" logo's on the doors, and the center of the taillight -( wouldn't it say - formula ? ) the sticker on the door says WS6 & WS9 right next to it - i am wondering if i should hang on to this car afterall ? - who can tell me the ASC # info ?? please help - would like to save it if possible !
thanks

Black- 1998 Trans Am WS6 'Vert
Are you sure it's "just" a Formula and not a T/A (which "started life" as a Formula)? What's the front facia and wing look like? The TransAm on the door and tail indicates a T/A. I believe both T/As and Formulas will have the WS9 code (maybe just T/As, I can't seem to remember if WS4 or WS9 was the T/A code).

NBM- 2000 Trans Am
WS9 is the upgrade to the Formula, Y82 is the upgrade to the TA(but it would also have the WS9 code) - both could have the WS6 RPO

GREEN 95 F/B LS1- 2000 SIERRA 5.3
i did find somewhere on the net that claimed WS4 was the code to convert the trans-am and WS9 was the code to convert the formula
should i assume that whatever life they started out as ( formula or trans-am ) that they BOTH ended up with Trans-Am badging as part of the WS6 package ???????

All Black- 83, 87, 02 All WS6 T/As
WS6 adds Ram Air Induction system, functional air scoops, 17" high polished aluminum wheels, P275/40ZR17 speed rated tires, Specific low restriction dual outlet exhaust system, and specific tuned suspension..... WS9 jumps to a Formula.. and like said the Y82 jumps it up to a Trans Am.. so if its a Formula WS6.. it should NOT have Y82 in the build sheet.

Navy Blue Metallic- `98 Formula M6 HdTp
All V8 Birds will have WS9 Conversion code *
All Formula's will have the WS9 and the W66 codes
All Trans Am's will have the WS9 and the Y82 codes
*WS9 is called the Formula conversion package but it really just indicates that it is a V8 Firebird. The W66 and Y82 codes would have to be present to indicate what model (Formula or Trans Am) it actually is.Craig

Sure someone could make it into a ta, as retarded as that may be, i hope thats not the case. All of the original parts would be lost as well

But he did say it doesn't have the Y82 RPO code... which would answer the question.

Funny thing is... if you check his post parting out the car... he shows the RPO codes... and it DOES HAVE Y82... the car is a TRANS AM... not a RED FORMULA WS6!
Doesn't matter since he parted it out anyways... but it wasn't a Formula WS6...

Yeah... I'm trying to get the vin/model breakdown for the 20 1LE's! I have the first one of the 20 built in '99... It's a White 1LE that I bought new in '98... but GM went on strike... thus putting my order into the '99 Model Year!
Back in the Day... ASC had told me it was the 1st Formula WS6 Conversion they did (For '99) don't know how many Trans-Am's may have been before it... I'm trying to get an ASC number now... my VIN ends in 00794
But back then they said it was the 1st Hardtop, 1st 6spd & obviously First 1LE, and Formula they did for 1999! I'd like to know out of the 20 WS6 1LE's how many were white! I know of at least one other... so it's probably going to be half a dozen or so!
Another rare option is the Hurst Shifter... that was a late '99 model year introduction... as to why only 12 cars came with it!
Peace,
Dave
