    5.0 cobra?

Recently spotted a black mustang with the 5.0 badge on the fenders and cobra emlem on the rear. The car still has the dealer papers in place of the license plate. Haven't had a chance to get next to this car to to really hear the engine. The driver drives very fast and aggressively. My question is, what can I expect when I finally get to run him? Never heard of or know anything about a cobra 5.0. Does anyone have any info about a car like this. Did someone just put badges. From the little I've been able to hear I don't detect a sc. Thanks for any info

Not a real Cobra. Unless it has SVT markings on it, the owner put the Cobra badges on. Only 5.0 Cobras out there are the 93-95s.

That is what I was thinking. Thanks for your input. When I do get to run him, I'm thinking I'll probably get spanked since my T/A only has exhaust and free mods but I'll give her all she's got. Those Coyote engines are pretty stout. H/C/I in the future.

    He has a 5.0...you have a 5.7

Unless he is S/C'd, which doesn't sound like he is, don't see why you're worried.

That's because the 93-95 were the Only mustang cobras to get a 5.0L engine. In the newer body style mustangs the cobra name got replaced with Shelby's.

Op. Just take his money and enjoy the easy win if it's NA. The only thing I'd concider is if it has a turbo, or spray.

sounds like another case of misbadging to me. Why as a matter of fact I saw a Pontiac G6 SS model. I dared not to disturb the mighty wizard that has tamed that performance beast.

A few weeks ago I see this thing in my mirror. Hood scoops and a GTO logo on the grill. I was in my Grand Am and slowed a little to get a look. When it came flying around me it sounded like crap and said Grand Prix on the back.

Had some kid from UTI that lives in my complex, who just bought (well, mommy and daddy did) a 2011 5.0. He starts questioning me about my Camaro, and starts running his mouth on how the 2011 5.0 GT's have 600 horsepower, and how he could drive circles around me............

I laughed, and asked him if he read the brochure on the mustang supersnake instead of a 5.slow

Porsche has a 4.0 6 cylinder that churns out 450hp, go race one of those with a stock ls1 f-body and see if your theory plays out.

If its a new body style then it is not a cobra. Just a 5.0 with a snake on it

OP says 5.0 and a cobra "emblem" on it. That to me, IS NOT a new Mustang 5.0

If you lose, send him my way.

As stated by Rich, only 93-95 Cobras had a 5.0 and yes, I would race one in a LS1.

OP - If you lose, send him my way.

Kind of throws it off by saying it had "dealer plates" on it, which makes me think new. However, anything bought off the dealership would have dealer plates on it, regardless of what year it is.

OP - was this a newer body style Mustang? Any idea on the year?

The new GT500 (Cobra badging) are 5.4L S/C...I wouldn't mess with one of those with a stock LS1...I think they would put up a good fight against my 427 LS3.

Also, you guys are ignorant about the new 5.0s. Those things would destroy even a bolt-on F-body. They're the same weight and the 5.0 is pushing between 412 and 444 crank hp (depending on premium or base model).

We ran a showroom stock New boss 302 at the track. Even on factory street tires it went 12.20. The best a 4th gen f body could do was 12.90's all factory stock, Up here.

Isn't the best stock 1/4 mi time for an fbody 12.9 @ sea level? And those boss's run 12.7 I thought. You mean with DRs or something? Those mustangs are not close to 11's from factory.
