Must be an A4 if talking about getting shift points retuned. Check out a RPM/MPH calculator like www.f-body.org/gears/ Did you get the PCM tuned for the new gears?

OK, just re-read your signature - you don't have 3.73's yet, right? According to that calculator with stock tire diameter 1000 RPM at 40 MPH is spot on for 2.73's in 4th.

Haven't gotten the gears yet! But I have the performance axle (3.23). I have been having this problem since I had the tranny rebuilt, and a shift kit installed at the same time. Could this have something to do with it and would a tune fix it?

Maybe the difference is the diameter of the 18's? That calculator lets you change the diameter or put in different tire sizes too, then recalculates. But yes, whatever is going on a tune can get your speedo right.
