This just started, when the right headlight closes it sounds like a mini jack hammer. It works fine. I know nothing about these but there is a round "cylinder" making the noise, here is a pic of it http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j292/rkh3/headlight/
What is it and any idea what is wrong???!!!

never done it, i think its just taking the motor out and popping the new gear on it, if you can change your own oil you can do this.

They sell the replacement gears but i opted to flip the gear 180 degrees so it didn't touch the teeth that had cracked and broken. They are costly but after install they should be bulletproof compared to the cheap plastic they put in from gm. All you do is pull the whole headlight motor out and pop the plastic off with a screwdriver to expose the gear. Than replace or rotate and seal the cap around the edges with epoxy or equivalent and your good to go. Took me about an hour including searching for glue...

I just ordered the rebuild kit. The motor feels loose, if that round cylinder is the motor, compared to the left one. Symptom of the stripped gears? The fitting at the top just spins is you turn it.
