    Woodruff key removal LT1 crank

I'm rebuilding my engine and was about to install the timing gear on the crank and encountered difficulity. The woodruff key does not appear to be in that bad of shape but the gear will not go on and I don't want to force it. I went to the Chevy dealer to purchase a new key and they don't even show a key that is stepped the way mine is. Can anyne tell me where I might get a new one and how I should go about removing tis without damaging the crank. I'm going to try to attach pictures.
