who is storing their cars
hopefully i'll be getting word on my storage unit situation here within the next few weeks. goin in with a few guys at work...boats and cars...sharing large rental units for our toys for a lower individual price. works out nicely.
at any rate who else stores their cars for the year?
i found myself having done only one oil change on the car this year...didn't even get a full 3,000 miles on it! i was shocked when i thought about it. and then not so much so after that as all i really did was drive to and from work and to school.
i'm somewhat torn this year though. last year i put stabil in a full tank of fuel before i put it away for the winter and this past summer it had a rough idle all year long...even after new plugs and a bottle of fuel system treatment. so this year i don't think that i'm going to stabil it. i never stabil my winter car and it always starts and runs just fine...and i haven't used it on the bike for a while now and i haven't had any issues with it either. thoughts...opinions?
my other deal is that i never did get around to fixing my turn signal. i need to put in a new return spring on the left hand turn signal. just never got the time with all the home projects i had goin on. and the shift boot retainer ring that i picked up and fixed...it broke the other day on my last drive of the year. so i'll have to pick up a new one here pretty soon...or at least by spring.
i'm also thinking that it may be time for new headlights. i'm thinking halos...maybe an hid projector upgrade also. and of course clear front turn signals to go along with it. i was also thinking about putting either the early 4th gen tail lights on the car (all red ones) or getting the import tail lights. i had also seen some interesting LED tail lights on ebay...but questioned their visibility in direct light and kinda am thinking against it at this point. i don't have a lot of extra cash laying around so big mods for the engine and trans are a bit out of the question right now...car is fun as it is. so i'm just looking to style it up a little bit within what i would consider reasonable.

I'll second that. Previously living in Ohio required us to leave the cars sit in the garage 5 months out of the year.
I'm beside myself now living where I can drive the cars year round
I never really did anything special to store them though. Garage was heated and kept above freezing during winter months. I always made it a point to go out and start the cars every couple of weeks and let them run 10-15 minutes, turn on the heaters, A/C or whatever to circulate things.
If the roads were clean of salt I may even take them up the road a couple miles to lubricate things.
Never used Stabil or any other additives. I practiced these methods for 25 years in Ohio, and never once had to rebuild a carb or replace a seeping water pump etc....
Come spring time I simply changed routine fluids and they were ready for cruising.

I store mine, i just bought mine in sept.so would like to drive it as long as
possible, i let the weather dictate when i put it up for storage, the first "sanding" or salt will put it away until april at least. I have my own garage so i can tinker with it and put some mods on during the long winters in Maine.

with the ethanol in the gas now, i would either use a additive like marine stabil or run the car empty, reports say the new gas formula will draw moisture and exhibit phase separation and other nasty things. I guess the recommendation is to leave tank full and put additive in.

Unless the weather improves, our car may have taken it's last ride of the year. We usually park the play cars from late October to late April. Sucks that we can only use them 6 months out of the year, but it does keep the odometer from seeing a lot of action. I will probably invest in a set of car covers this year as the DD's drag in lots of dust and other crap throughout the winter.
