advantage - the bigger '99 cam makes more power
    disadvantage - '99 has egr(rip it out)
    disadvantage - '99 has LS1 manifold ('01-'02 have LS6 manifold)

so the difference in cam size is compensated with the different manifold.

    egr - exhaust gas recirculatory.

Its attached from the passenger side headers to the front of the intake manifold. You can rip it out and it will remove some restriction in the incoming airflow. Your car doesn't need the system, and it won't make it run rough or anything. It will throw a service engine soon light. You will also need block off plates to cover up the holes. Cleans up the engine bay too!

    Rough Idle:

You don't mind it idling all rough? It would bug me to have a rough idle or a high idle.

Actually it's the 01-02 F-bodies that had a different cam with slightly lower lift and duration than the 98-00 models.

    98-00

    Duration@.050 198.86 intake 209.25 exhaust
    Lift .498 intake .497 exhausts
    LSA 119.45

    01-02

    Duration@.050 196.37 intake 208.72 exhaust
    Lift .464 intake .479 exhausts
    LSA 115.92

However, the 01-02 F-bodies lacked EGR and has the higher flowing LS6 manifold.

So the bigger cam (98-00) will work better with the LS-6 intake, right? I see how the EGR is eliminated with the smaller cam, the LSA is tighter for more overlap to allow a little EGR naturally.

There is very little to no benefit from the slightly bigger cam in the 98-00 models.

The bigger cam is better after you add better manifolds or headers, LS6 intake and eliminate EGR. It is not a huge difference, but it is noticable, and will have an advantage!

I know, its just unnecessary B.S.
A tune will allow you to go through emissions by eliminating it.

Well, it's not BS, it actually reduces emission's so it serves a purpose. If your inspector sees it's missing or checks the computer and sees the not ready status then it could still fail.

It will fail emissions. Upon visual inspection, the inspector checks for emissions equipment as the vehicle was equipped with from the factory. They check the underhood sticker and compare it to the hardware in your vehicle.

I know some of you guys are thinking, "just remove the sticker." Well, that's a federal crime and I would not recommend or advocate that. If found, you will be prosecuted. I would not risk it for a few ponies.

    Stay legal, stay safe!

With the 98 Cam, yes it was necessary. In 01, the cam they used didn't require it. But if you take it to get it tuned out, you will pass emissions. Maybe not the visual, but there are plenty of places that will overlook it and let it go if there is no readiness test.
