What muffler to get
Hello guys! So im running the mangaflow system on my car with LT's with cats. Im not really happy with the sound, it sounds like a stock ls1. I dont really want to buy a new cat-back if i can just get a muffler. My question to everyone is what would be a good sounding mufflers to go with and not breaking the bank. If i have to i will get a new cat-back. Thanks for the help!

The cat back is the muffler, if you want to run just a muffler you won't be able to run the exhaust tips to both sides.
Mufflex, borla xr-1, you could do a round/bullet that might be a bit much but the last style certainly would be the cheapest.

Previous LS1 had headers with a catted Y and SLP LoudMouth1 (LM1). That thing sounded great, but to leave for work at 4am every morning in the winter and trying to let it warm up for 5-10 minutes, was enough to piss of the neighbors. Don't get me wrong, I could've cared less, and didn't live in a bad neighborhood so I never had to worry, but there are certain things to take into consideration, if it's your DD.
My current LS1 has headers, catted Y and a Borla cat-back. Sounds ok on cold start up, you can tell its an LS motor, but at a warm idle (Especially in gear), only a true LS1 enthusiast would be able to tell it's aftermarket exhaust. Anything over 2200RPMs and it's SCREAMING! That's what I love about it! Don't have to worry about pissing off the neighbors in the morning, can keep it quiet when necessary, but if you go WOT....
If it wasn't my DD, I'd go with any LT (preferrably Kooks or try to find some FLPs) and a true dual set-up with bullet mufflers like C5Z28 suggested.
If you have (or plan on) 3 point SFCs and don't want to to deal with the hassle of running true duals around it, I'd go with any given ORY, and GMMG or LM1 exhaust. Have heard the LM2s are a little quieter, and since I don't like SLP to begin with, it's just a damn good reason not to buy anything new from them

I thought i could just replace the muffler and still run tips out with sides as long as i have the in/out lets right.

I'm not fully understanding exactly what you want to do. You want to replace the muffler, cool, I get that. (I'll probably do the same sometime as well). Are you planning on welding? If not, you're going to have to deal with getting reducers, clamps, and all that... If its 3" pipe all the way back to the muffler and the muffler inlet is the same as far as inside diameter and outside diameter, you'll have to cut it, get a reducer or expander and clamp it. Is this what you're looking for?

The is by no means my DD. I did have the LM1 on before and i didnt like the drone on the highway. I thought magnaflow would be what i was looking for but i was wrong. I thought about true duals but i hear if you lower the car you'll hit. If i had to buy a whole new set up i was looking at the LM2.
Im trying to find a nice growl but not killing my ears with drone. Thanks guys!

Borla sounds great on mine. Buddy had a magnaflow with factory exhaust manifolds and factory Y, and it was quiet!!!! Like I said, mine is quiet as well until you get to 2k-2200, and then it opens up. Also, mine was a DD, and I was able to deal with the highway drone. Just speed up or slow down

yes you can just get hte muffler and weld it in place where the magnaflow is at right now,
i love borla's.
i had magnaflow too quiet for my taste, flowmaster nice tone, borla best tone and flows very good.
you really cant go wrong with a borla.
