What do you think camaro or trans am?
I'm new to the club. I've been reading the threads for a while now and have found some excellent information on F bodies.
I am thinking of purchasing a camaro ss or trans am ws6. Anywhere from the 1998 to 2002. I drove a 2001 SS several weeks ago and loved it. The clutch and ride seemed pretty smooth.
Many of the WS6 I've seen for sale are year 2000.
Anybody have any feedback on how each of these cars drive? Common problems? If one is better than the other?
Thanks

Dark Gray 02 Tahoe- A few too many Lsx's!
Hey there....Well personally I think the SS Camaro beats the TA any day. Granted i'm partial cuz I own a 2000 camaro SS but i would still def go w/the SS. They are (stock) a tad bit faster cuz they're lighter. They also handle alot better. I dont know, they look better to haha! So yeah, my votes in for the SS...... Good luck!

I have owned both an I keep coming back to the SS. If you are looking strickly for performance buy an 01 or 02 they had the LS6 intake on either model. ILike they said before cant go wrong with either.

Whatever you think looks best is the one to go with.
They are the same underneath.
FYI the bird's flip-up headlight tend to break alot.

Sunset Orange Metallic- 2002 Camaro SS M6
both cars are basically the same exact thing, minus the little bit of extra weight on the trans-am. I personally think the Camaro looks better. definately get an 01 or 02 for the LS6 intake.

Thanks for the advice.
When I fist started looking I was set on the WS6, but after driving the SS I fell in love. I think with the replies I've received you helped me make my decision.
I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks again.

I have also heard the nose on a WS6 is about 50lbs. heavier. Why? and where?

if you want the all out bad boy performance then the SS is for you. its all about power with subdued looks that get the job done. thats never a bad thing cause all good boys wear bowties
if you want the aggrassive in your face looks of the TA/WS6 with just about the same performace of the SS then the bird is for you. i have never owned a bird though i've always wanted a TA and drove plenty, but the Camaro fit the bill for me.
yes the TA/WS6 is heavier due to the pop up headlights and the ground effects and high-rise spoiler as well. also consider that the TA being a product of pontiac is a higher end model of the GM line up, so cost is an issue there as well. the best bang for the buck between the two would be the SS. and no im not saying that just because i own one. regardless, take your time and you will figure out whats suits you the best and go get it2018 CTS-V: °°668rwhp/658rwtq°°
2013 ZL1: °°590rwhp/576rwtq°°

i read somewhere that "an SS is the type of car that can kick your ass. a Ws6 looks like its comming over to do it."

[SSwt00SS said it best. It really comes down to taste. Personally, I like the SS front end better than the TA; I don't like pop-up headlights and the front end is a little too Knight Rider for my owner-taste.
Don't get me wrong, hey're both bad ass rides. You'll be happy in either.

Dark Gray 02 Tahoe- A few too many Lsx's!
Well granted I drive an SS but I did have to make the same choice as you.....hmmmmm, SS or T/A I was even considering an 03 Cobra but I went with the SS.....I would however like to disagree with the comment that the T/A's look meaner. I dont agree with that. I do agree with the guy who said they look to Knight Riderish...Thats true . I mean don't get me wrong, they're nice cars and all but I just wanted to say that I think the SS Camaro looks just as mean if not meaner. I mean, their physic is sleek and narrow vs. the T/A which is bulky. Plus the creases in the hood clearly define the car.
The "pop up" head lights? Not even gonna comment on that...I also think the inside of a Camaro is better looking. so yeah, my vote is still in for the SEXY, SLEEK, SS
