What do I need to do for 400WHP?

I want the most reliable way to make 400WHP on a LS1 N/A.

What do I need to do?

    No N20, or FI.

Reminds me of an old Car Craft article from the 80's. "I got a 68 Fury with a 318, how do I make it High Performance ..."

    Answer " Swap Motors"

LS6 heads ($500ish used), .575-.585ish lift cam around 228 duration, ORY, LT's, Cutout, good tune, LS6 manifold (if you get a pre 01' that doesnt have one already). This should have you at around 400whp or so through a 6-speed with good drivability.

This guy has ported LS6 heads, you don't need to do that if you dont want to, you could still EASILY hit 400whp without doing it, he has a pretty good sized cam, but still streetable. I say go with stock LS6 heads (unless you have the $$ for patriot performance ported LS6's, dont know your $$$ situation).

Anywho, his combo netted 450whp and is nothing special.

There is a thread with stock heads and a milder cam, 411whp. Other mild-cam only ppl in the thread posted up as well. You can see their mods in their sig.

My main point is 400streetable whp in an LS1 is so simple you have to be a moron to fubar the combo and not get it.

comp 224 is a *small* cam too, more proof it's easy to accomplish. Also, unlike a mustang, ls1 heads flow great. You do them last...not first.

+1, i installed the heads in Jan or this year (maybe all of 500 miles on the car since), bought the new cam 2 weeks ago...lol

the 224 is a very proven cam that is a very solid performer when combined with the right/supporting mods. i have been very pleased with it. i simply want to go bigger at this point for a semi-retired daily driver car...

do your research and establish your goals. don't get caught up in peak HO/TQ numbers otherwise you will be disappointed. by honest with yourself and set a budget as well...
