The verts are the heaviest of the three options.

Not 200 lbs. difference, not even close.

They are actually closer in weight than most people realize. For an accurate weight on any particular car you really just need to hit the scales with it. I've seen them all over the place.

For instance I have both a T-top SS and a convertable SS

My vert comes in at 3,620 lbs. without me in it.
My T-top weighs 3,560 lbs. without me in it.

Both had just over 1/2 tank of gas. As you can see the vert only gives up about 60 lbs. Not even enough to get excited about. And my vert is an automatic too which some say adds more weight. My T-top is a 6 speed. But those 6 speeds are not featherweights either.
    Otherwise they are optioned identical.

Couple friends of mine had T-top cars that were actually heavier than my convertable. So you just can't speculate without hitting the scales.

It also has to do with options and which f-body you have aswell.

But a fully optioned SS/ws6 vert is gonna be a good 80-120lbs more than a full optioned SS/ws6 t-top if both use the same tranny. The only vert car iever saw on a scale was a nicely options z28 vert, i cant for the life of me remember the numbers past this 37XX.

Gross vehicle weight rating is the weight of your car and as much stuff as it shoudl be loaded with. Meaning your car with you and fuel and cargo should never weigh more than 4242 or you are exceeding the gross weight limit.

That is a max weight the vehicle can weigh with the car, passengers and baggage.

Ya my convertable door tag is something close to 4,000 lbs. as well. But on the scales it was 3,620 lbs. Door tags aren't even close and in most cases will list either gross weights or weights without fluids as the car would be shipped on a carrier.

My wifes previous 97 Z28 vert with a 6 speed only weighed 3,520 lbs. It is a solid 100 lbs. lighter than my 02 SS vert, with an aluminum block and fiberglass hood verses a cast iron LT1 and steel hood.

Both were loaded with all the electronic goodies. These cars are just all over the place as far as weight goes. I also can't explain why a pair of T-top cars were heavier than my 02 SS convertable on the same day.
