Wanting to build a 4th gen Camaro.

I've got the LS1 engine and tranny out of a GTO, 04 I think. I'm just trying to find a rolling Camaro. My question is, will the LS1 fit into a v6 Camaro? I have the know how and tools/shop to make the modifications to make mounts and what not, I just need to know if it will fit for now. Insurance reasons are nice also.

    Sure it will...

I've never done it, but I believe you need to change out motor mounts (thats a given), harness (also a given), possibly struts/springs, and not sure about the rest...

    Don't forget to add SFCs!!!

try to find a roller v8 car there are sooo many things that need to be changed to make it fit. You need the complete engine cradle from a v8 car along with the motor mounts, transmission and tranny mount, entire underhood wiring harness, fuse boxes, fuel system with return lines, driveshaft gauge cluster and most likely a rear end seeing as v8 cars came with posi and different gear ratios.

The underlined areas are things that can be found on v6 cars too if you're looking @ the right v6 car with the rs and/or y87 performance packages..

    Or firebird equivulant.

But yes many things will need changed besides.

Especially if it's a base v6.. Remember the term "v6" does NOT always= base car..

oh boy, you are in way over your head if you don't even know if it will fit or not. it will, but that will be the least of your worries trying to convert a V6 car to a V8.

As everyone said, your much better off buying a nice V8 roller and adding your powertrain. There are quite a few 98-02 SS and Z28 rollers for sale on the other site in the $1K-2K price range.

One thing we all need to ask is what the primary use for this car will be? Track only car? Mostly street driven? What?

If it's a track only car, you can strip the hell out of it, rig a few things (as well as cover them up) to get by inspection, and not worry about the decency of it. I'm intrigued as to what you're goals are stilll...

If it has 241 heads its an 04 GTO. Also, the LS1 is not drive by wire in the GTO either.

I have all the means to do all of it, I just needed to know if it would fit. There was a rolling v6 that I could have picked up a few days ago for about $250, just needed paint which I plan to do either way. Its going to be a track/weekend car. How ever, I'm going to try to get a v8 roller. Thanks for the help though

As long as you have the 4th gen ls1 kmember it will bolt right up. Easy swap. I just get a nice tublar k member with solid mounts install motor. Get tranny lined out may need a crossmember.

I agree find a suitable car with a V-8 already in it and swap it in there instead of the headache of converting just saying it would be easier

I'd make sure the transmission is the same length as the f-body ones. I know the 93-97 t-56's are shorter than the 98-02's.
