Value Question (Gen III)

I found a 1984 Z28 HO (L69) it even has the funky special interior thats say camaro all over the seats and door panels. I has some minor dings and a broken mirror, will need some new paint on the rear spoiler and chin spoiler and a rip on the driver seat. He parked it a few years back when a wire came lose in the distributor.

He is asking 5,000 for it I offerd him 3,000 for it. He said he would think about it, if he sticks with $5,000 should I go for it?

Hell no, most I do is $3,500 maybe.... $3,000 sure. Those cars are getting cheaper then dirt, the olders one more so then others. TPI's seem to hold better value... PS, early C4 Vettes in decent shape can easily be had for under $5,000.

why is the price going down and is the L69 package any help on the value scale?

Early 3rd gens, have really shity early 80's eminsions and was slow... You may get beat then allot of modern Civics, saddly. TPI's was kinda fast, there for held it's value. As with both early 3rd gen F-Bodies and C4 Vettes, they both have shitty electronics. I know for a fact $6,000 will get a mit late 80's early 90's GTA with 5.7L. Look hard enough, I bought my 93 Vette for $5,500 and my stepdad bought an 88 for $3,000 (He is selling for $3,500).

The 3rd gen f-bodys and c4 vettes have the worst value. The american auto industry was making some super shitty cars in the early to mid 80s. They started coming back i nthe late 80s early 90s but they are still considered by msot cars guys the ugliest and most udnerpowered generation. GM sold a 5.0 v8 option with 170hp need i say more

1984 350 SBC = 165ish hp flash to 1990 same car 3.1L 60*v6 = 145hp. Roughly

1984 305 SBC = 145ish hp. flash to 1989 same car 2.8L 60*v6 135hp. Roughly

Only thing that old 84 v8 is worth is scrap price IMHO.. Maybe a good shell for a project but the motor from those days is just another smogger.. The car is'nt worth 1500 bucks.. I'd only consider $5k if it was in excellent condition.. $3k if the mileage is reasonable with the damage stated.. Those old SBC's loved to eat their cams..

5 grand is high especially if it needs work. If he would do 2 grand I say go for it. Those cars are getting harder to find in good original condition.

no. you'll never get your money back, just use the 5,000 to mod your 4th gen
