    Tuned or Not?

Is there that much of a difference between "tuned" headers and ones that aren't? Reason i ask, are the SLP LT's really worth the $1000 or are the pacesetters or other LT's that aren't tuned just as good? Thanks for the help.

your basically paying for the name... i personally have hooker headers and have noticed some impressive gains for half the cost of SLP...

DO NOT get SLP headers. They dont give u half the power they claim and they hang so dam low. Youll scrape the coating right off.

    X2 for QTP

Tuned Length Headers are not worth the aggrevation. It is to hard to change plugs and do standard maintainance because of the roller coaster of primary pipes. Just being equal length does not make them better, cause like SLP headers, there are to many bends which effect performance.

Yes there is a difference, otherwise the header people would not go to the cost to make the tuned headers. My spark plug access actually improved after my Hooker long tubes were installed, and I don't see any access problems anywhere else. Pacesetters are not tuned length headers. They may fit well (so do my Hookers) but there is a reason for the lower cost.

SLP headers are actually a cheaper brand of stainless, being "409". Which is B.S. why they charge so much for them. When the ceramic coating wears of or gets scratched, it will rust and cause the rest of the coating to come off. If they used "304" it would just stain when exposed to the elements and go no further.

SLP's "tuned length" was a great idea when they developed it... but it has turned out so be quite insignificant... plus clearance is a B*TCH... even with out being lowered

personally i vote in this order... (if you must have stainless) & i'd wrap them
    American Racing Headers
    KOOKS
    QTP

    non-stainless...
    Pacesetter (def go with coated)
    Hooker

also pacesetters & hookers are almost an identical deisgn... pacesetters are just cheaper

    stainless's...
    409 = doo doo
    304 is pretty good stainless
    308 is better
316 is very very good... but not often found for exhaust systems

nice info. I have found working with stainless products that are mass produced, that the 409 will be more consistent when bending. 304 is tougher to bend because it always wants to go back to its original shape. Lots of times, after 304 is mandrel bent, it requires more attention to its consistency. Most of the times the end of the pipe close to bends are egg shaped.

Get Pacesetters for the money. The only reason to get more expensive is to get stainless steel. Coated Pace etc are good but they do not last as long.
