Stock- 2002 Camaro
T-Top flew off on the freeway.....
So i was driving home from a friends house and me and my GF were watching a movie during the drive. once we got on the freeway, i rolled up the window so it would be easier to hear. as soon as the window gets to the top i hear this loud suction sound, i looked over in just enough time to see the T-Top get sucked off of the car. Shit. so what happend was when i washed the car earlier in the day i left both of them unlatched so i could put the shades back in. my dumb ass fault. since it was dark i went back to my friends house and got some flash light. took about an hour but i found it. here are some pics
So 70MPH with T-Top flying off on the freeway, and all i see are a couple of scratches. Thank you GM for atleast one "STOCK" part that car take some abuse.Last edited by Dr.Crash; 05-31-2009 at 08:44 PM.

WoW! Talk about lucky. Thank god no one was behind you man.But from what Ive seen T-Tops can take A LOT. Friend got hit head on and the passengers side T-Top never exploded. . . however it did look like a boomerang with the glass still intact.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
You are lucky! I've seen them fly off and shatter into a gazillion pieces.
ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS latch and lock your T-tops!

Wow that's pretty luck it didn't blow apart. At least you can admit you left it unsecured. Guys on the Corvette site won't do that, they'll say it must have a manufacture defect?

Talk about an "Oh, shit!" kind of moment. One of the first things I learned on this site was to lock the T's when I re-install them. Someone had a horror story posted about his friend reaching up and pulling the lever going down the road. As with this one though, it ended ok.

The person behind you must have shit themselves...otherwise it would have been cool to see it flipping through the air.

2016 Camaro SS - Summit- 2001 Trans Am WS6 - NBM
+1000 on the lucky part... I was towing my old supra from a friend's house where I'd been keeping it back to my house, and he forgot to tell me he didn't secure the targa top back on, that it was just sitting up there....flew off on the highway, I went back to get it, but a semi had already turned it into about 6 pieces of unrecognizable scrap metal......

Black- 383 Procharged & N20 Vert
Lucky.
When I lost mine. I didn't go back. I was sure it was shattered. But 20 minutes later I just wanted to make sure.
I drove back to where it flew off. It was still sitting in the middle of the road. I couldn't believe it.
I pulled over and waited for traffic. Then it happened...
The last car in the pack ran it over. AHHHH!!!!!

I really just can't believe it didn't shatter. Glad to hear I'm not the only person who has had this problem.
