stock speed limit ?

did the SS come with a factory speed limit ? and if soo .... what would it mean if i do not have one ? chip ? or luck ?

not real sure about an SS but the factory computer on a z28 is set at 162mph the fuel pump cuts off at 6200rpm. just what i have read

Can't remember the exact speed limiter numbers, but depends on if the car came with Z rated tires or not. Non Z rated got about 115? and Z got about 160? regardless of what gears. Tire info is inside the door - I'd assume all SS models came with the Z. Speed/RPM limiters could have been raised along the line by someone changing the settings in the PCM.

your right the tires made the difference, i think it was 118mph though.
a programmer can raise the speed limiter.

My speedo taps out at 155 but I kept going and it didn't seem to be slowing down. Couldn't tell you for sure how fast it was willing to go.

Ive had my Z up to 145 and thats it. Does anyone else just feel guilty after going that fast....? I know, I'm weird!

I had my car up to 145 on the speedo, and it felt WAY TOO LIGHT!!!.
Since then I've replaced the rear suspension (all UMI) and lowered it almost 2 inches.

i've done 135 in fourth once but i needs tires too bad now.

Friend of mine who shall remain nameless had his 02 ss slp up to 167 when the cutoff occured. Fastest Ive had my z so far is 135, but i need suspension, better brakes and a loooooooong starightaway (read: straightaway) with no traffic before trying to top that.

and a lobotomy. j/k

I took my SS all the way to the end of the speedometer reading and it was still pulling. I backed off, tapped the brakes lightly and almost lost control when the nose dived. I'll never do that again!

I did 140 going down a hill, i did it in less than a mile and slowed down. It was fast, but didn't seem all that fast.

yes its 160-162 the limiter..............but you can disable that

118 with non Z rated tires. Really sux when you change to 4.11's from 2.73's without a tune speedo reads 118 and goes into cutoff when you actually are doing 77.

I've hit rev limit or something in fifth gear once before, and it looked like it should have been about 170(needle in the voltmeter), and once was running from the cops for literally 25 minutes... Never went under 145 except to make a turn Scary!

Don't tell me, I know that was pretty F'in stupid...
