    SS value has dropped?

So im pretty pissed. i bought my car a year go, and blue book at the time was 13,500. i paid about 12,700 for it.

now blue book(kbb) is only a little over 8,000. WTF!?

i still owe a little more than that on it.

Did the value really drop that much in the matter of a year? and why?!?

i was just getting ready to sell it as well. im insanely disappointed about this. i bought the car thinking it wouldn't drop in value as much considering what it was and how it hadn't depreciated as much as a normal car.

the reason i want to sell it is due to the new camaros coming out. i hate them. is this what is making them go down in value?

nada and edmunds say about 9,000 or a little over.

kbb.com says other wise? in excellent condition at 40,000 miles(not sure how many miles you have) says its 9,240

    http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pric...uizConditions=

And thats private party value, suggested retail(dealer) is about 1,500 over that.

it's definitly gas prices and the economy. No one's buying cars right now, so they're very hard to sell, especially sports cars cause they really arent "needed"... no one's gonna buy them when they are worried at all about money

These cars are also falling into the catagory where they are not that old yet and are going through the depreciating stage.

Even the oldest of the 4th gens just aren't that old.

If you guys with your Super Sports want to see long term investment it's way too early for that. These cars need to reach nearly 20-25 years old before they are recognized as something collectable. When they are more scarce in another 10-15 years you may see prices start to climb again.

Much like the cars from the 60's and early 70's did back in the early 90's. And they kept climbing from there. Actually the economy hasn't affected the older muscle cars at all,,,they are still changing hands for the 100's of thousands as we speak.

Right now the market is flooded with 4th gens, there are just so many to choose from,,,supply and demand. My wife totalled her Z28 convertable 3 months ago,,,I went out and replaced it with a low mile SS without a problem, the country is flooded with them.

Thats not to say they will reach prices that the older muscle has,,,I don't think that will happen for many reasons. But it's just too early to tell what will happen.

    Don't worry about it.
They are worth what you can get for it. Which is probably more than the KBB value.

KBB for my 1999 T/A WS.6 with 37,500 on the clock.
    Private Party - Excellent = $10,475
    Retail - Excellent = $12,620

I paid $31K for mine (it only had 5 miles on it though).

Cars depreciate. (So can other "investments," BTW, have you checked the S&P 500 lately?)

yeah. i knew it would depreciate somewhat, i just wasnt expecting 5,500 in one year acording to blue book....

really got fucked because of it. i bought it 1 year ago in about a week. And i still owe about 9 on it. and i got a good deal on the loan. after paid off ill only wind up paying about 850 over what i got it for. (only put 500 down)

i was planning to sell it(hopefully for 10 or 11) and take the couple g's left over and put it toward a 03-04 z06. but now. i have nothing to put towards it and am now backwards on the deal.

guess theres nothing i can do now!

It also depends on the performance of the new cars, if the new camaros come out and turn out to be slower then the older ones your vaules will go back up becasue people will start looking for ls1 cars again. As sad as that will be i fully expect it to happen. What with the challangers epic fail.

Hey, it's not just cars. It's houses and everything else.

While cars of course do depreciate, I've a feeling that the huge drop will level out some in time.

Maybe after the Presidential election, and since the gas prices are dropping.

These cars are just too new to try and flip and make a buck on like that.
They just haven't reached the appreciation stage yet. Right now they are a dime a dozen.
