?SS spoiler?
Is there anyway you can tell a true GM ss spoiler from an aftermarket one?

Most aftermarket 98-02 SS spoilers have a higher lip at the very back. Also where the spoiler mounts on the sides, the piece directly in front of the spoiler should be flush with the spoiler.

ss spoiler
The rear spoiler is a thermo-formed ABS composite. ITis a two part spoiler that is bonded to each other to make one unit. There is two SS spoilers, 96 & 97. This is with out center bars. 98 to 02 has center bars. Both are composite, look in the brake light hole and you will see paint numbers for the brake bulb if it is a used oem spoiler. The line number is also in there.

It'll also have numbers under the passengers side mounting area. As said before, biggest first clue is the two piece design.. then look closely at the light. Then start taking it apart.

Well the spoiler was repainted at some point and time. The guy said it was off a red 01 SS and he painted it black. As far as the brake light goes there isn't one. The guy said it was missing when he got it so he had the hole for it filled in and painted over. You can still see where it use to be though. I looked under the spoiler and the only thing I could find was under the drivers side. It had some numbers and letters: CSD-165XX(couldn't read the last 2 numbers), ASM#10087, SMC, and MADE IN CANADA. So I'm still not sure.

As stated, the real ones are 2 pieces. Look at the lip at the rear of the spoiler,,,follow along it,,,there will be a seam,,,,where the top of the spoiler mates with the lower half. It's very obvious and can be seen standing 10 feet away.
All of the aftermarket ones are a one piece design.

Well I looked at the back lip and didn't see a seam. I don't know but maybe it could have been coverd when it was repainted. On the inner front of it(part closest to the hatch glass) it did look like two peices. Does any one know what any of those letters or numbers mean?

Well it dosn't really matter. I only paid $100 for it so even if its aftermarket it was still a good deal. I just wanna know what it's really worth.
