I've got a 99 z28. im looking at buying a ss hood from slp. the cost is 1000. they say it is made of smc same as from the factory. is this true? also is this price about the norm?

You can get an SS hood from RKSport for $600. I don't know what the quality is like, but I'm sure someone on here does.

Yes, it's true. Slp made the hoods for GM .

They used to sell the SS hoods there and grill, the hoods are around 600. and the grills about 50. I was able to get one off Ebay from a Chevy dealer in Texas a couple of years ago...

try and find one somewhat local COLOR MATCHING and pick it up
it will look 100% factory since SLP painted the hoods & spoilers seperate from the car so the color is always off... also no "orange peel" in the paint

used one in good condition off a ledgit SS should be from 400-900 depending on the condition & saves you $$$ for paint later

IMO either get one off a real SS or spend the $$$ & get it from SLP
aftermarket ones (RK/VFN etc etc etc) are not as exact for fitment & you'll end up spending the extra money in having the body shop have it fit correctly with clearence & lines

quality usually isnt the issue, proper fitment with good lines though

not cheap but will line up perfect

and years ago is wasnt slponline.com it was slpeng.com
but they apparently no longer engineer anything... well atleast not anything worth noting

thanks for the advice. I checked slp, it seems they might have the best fit. i'll probably go with them. unless a good deal on an actual gm hood falls in my lap.
