    shifter

I have a 2000 ss. It has the factory hurst shifter. Is the pro 5.0 a better or is the hurst just as good?

+1 on the 5.0! Shorter shifts plus it has bump stops so you don't overthrow the gear.

Might be best to find a friend and drive one before you buy. They all have a little different feel.

I tried the 5.0, and before that I tried the Hurst Billet Plus. I didn't like any of them so I went back to the stock Hurst with a short stick on it.

Now the short stick is too short for my taste, and it's positioned poorly in the console opening. So I heated it up and bent the stick forward and to the left for a more comfortable location. I'd still like it to be an inch or two longer though.

That's just been my experiences with shifters in these T56's. Everyone wants a different feel.

I've also heard better reviews on the MGW. At this point for me, I've spent enough money trying different shifters, and my wife is happy with the factory hurst at the moment.

At some point if I ever test drive a car with the MGW and it persuades me enough to buy another shifter, I'll get it. Otherwise I'm done experimenting.

one good thing about the MGW is its fully adjustable back to stock hight, all the way down to i think something like 70% reduction, to bad you wernt out my way i would let you try it out..
like i said i've tried the rest now i shift with the best, it is WELL worth the $$$

Sounds good. If I go with another aftermarket, the MGW will be it since I've tried the others. I'd just like to try the MGW before I plunk money down. I here nothing but good things about it.

Now yall have me thinking about the mgw. its only like 30 or so more dollars. Does it come with the stops already set so that you do not over shift. the pro 5.0 you have to set them. Do yall know what im talking about?

I am pretty sure you have to set the stops. It's relatively easy. I think it's just a couple screws.

The procedure I use on the old muncie/toploader hursts goes something like this.

Put shifter in 1st gear, run the stop bolt in until it contacts the shifter housing, you'll see the stick start to move. Back off about 1/2 turn and lock the jamb nut.

Do the same thing with the shifter in 2nd gear.

No just drop it in and go. I've used the pro 5 and B&M they are good shifters but not as good as the MGW. It's a really nice piece well worth the extra $$$. My GF got me one for my birthday last year with the gripper knob and it looks like it belongs in the car.

plus you can get different threaded shafts that are real easy to change, so you could put dam near any knob you want on it

Put the pro 5.0 in this past weekend and love it. Had it on my old 98 TA back in the day. Adjusting the stops literally takes 10 seconds each side.
