    Say bye bye!!!

Today I started my car... Sounded fine for about 5 seconds and then boom the motor became toast! My rear main seal went bad and the motor ran dry. I guess we all learn some way. Dont know what to do now but suggestions are welcome. I'm really bummed cause I love my car but i just might have to sell it as a parts car.

I've seen long blocks new for around $3k or so. You may be able to find a used one cheaper - or you could get a used LS1 from a junkyard for around $1k or so - plus you can use many parts off your toasted motor too.

Can't post the direct link - there is a place called crate engine depot - they carry a decent deal on the LS6 long block. Or google "LS6 crate engine" - you'll get a ton of finds there.

Short blocks are just the engine block itself. Long blocks have almost everything already installed - usually you just need to add intake, exhaust, and your accessories ie. a/c, power steering and such. Short blocks are good if you just need the block for building. If you know exactly what is trashed on yours, you could just pick up a LS1 short block - if yours is trashed, and whatever else got fried, and use the rest of the parts that are still good on your motor, to complete the short block.

Sorry to hear that spokes... Perhaps instead of replacing with an LS6 or LS1, consider a LQ9 or LQ4 iron block. You can probably pick them up cheaper and then you can build them too the moon!!! I believe you can squeeze 408 cubic inches out of it when all the boring and stroking is done.

tough luck man, just don't give up. time to upgrade. you may still be able to rebuild what you have. stroker crank and forged pistons is the route i'd take if possible.

Sounds like a bad deal, I have been quoted around $900-1,200 for minor engine swaps. Some of them even offered to buy the engine back if it's something of intrest. If you can get the car high enough off the ground, it's not to hard to do your self. But not something you can do in the parking lot... Be sure you have a nice garage.
