Why not paint it on the car?
I think if you do not put in on properly you could get air bubbles in it later on

    not 100% sure
    just a warning

I went to a body shop and they thought it was bolted on under the headliner,
They said to get a good spray it should be removed first.

It is bonded to the metal framework -- removal is generally a destructive process. Careful masking and prep work will allow you to paint it on the car. As noted above, the factory adhesive will most likely bleed through your paint at some point: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119952

I was under the impression that it was glued on
I think some year cars had the wrong adhesive which caused the panel to obtain little air pockets inside. I'll have to double check.

Your chance of sucess of 1 piece removal is 0.00001%....

I have T-topped a HT car, and that does NOT come off easy, nor in 1 piece.

Mask it, and paint it on the car if you must.

the anniversary model has it painted red to match the car, along with the
unique stripes, i was considering going that route, but might keep it black and go with the black stripes,if any. What started me on the paint, was i
need to replace both door center moldings, the clear coat was peeled just
on the moldings, i ordered new ones and need to have them painted, paint
ain't cheap, so instead of having excess paint kicking around was looking at painting the panel. But i will probably just avoid the whole hassle and keep it black.
