QUESTION; LS6 block
what the easiest way to see your block numbers, to see if i got a ls6 block? mirror? soft clay? the reason im asking ,is when i had my car dynoed stock, i got 333 rwhp, and the dyno operater said that was some good numbers for stock ls1, then i put new ls6 heads ,right out of the box, springs and pushrods and comp cam and tune, then dynoed again, i got 429.7 rwhp first pull

A telescoping mirror and a flashlight is the best way. However, as pointed out by Tatertot in another thread there are apparently casting marks on the front of the block that also differentiate the two.

Ls6 block
http://tinypic.com/r/2q3zvkh/7 compared to this pic, it looks like theres a little hat looking thing on top of it, and compared to the pic of my car, doesnt have that piece on top, so my thoughts are, i do have a LS6 block, thats cool, and im glad that shot of the bulls eye engine is not mine, she needs a bath, right

6 speed 02 ls1 with ls6 intake. sounds like some nice numbers but also the ls6 intake is giving you more power than the block difference would. not to mention the 6 speed which soaks up minimal power compared to a4. block is stronger due to casting, has better oil and coolant passages. but internally the bottom end is still ls1 parts. the ls6 intake and 6 speed make the 01 and 02 cars dyno queens more often than 98-00 cars. was there and actual performance baseline like a drag strip slip that reflected the above average power for 98-02?

When standing in front of your car with the hood up, go to the headers on your left. Look above the pipe closest too you and you can see what number your heads are. 243 for LS6 and 241 for LS1. Other than that their are other marks on the block to help you. There are threads about this. I can't find them at this time though. Maybe someone can point you in the right direction.
