Like they said it's both...and you can raise both. If your f-bod came with Z rated tires it's limited at 162ish....the cheap tire f-bods is at 120.

Is the resistor aka "speed chips" the only way to take out the governor?

It's not a resistor or a chip...the memory in the pcm is flash based. It needs to be programmed using software like hptuners/ls1edit or a handheld programmer.

keeping the motor at high RPM consistently (unless it is euro trash) is not good. You are just shortening the life expectancy of the motor.

I know and I only did it once, I was just wondering if that meant I had no rev limiter after 1st gear or what?

According to HPTuners...my stock rev limiter was at 6200 RPM's.
I tend to not doubt what it says stock.

The stock tach doesn't keep up with a stock car in the first two gears. That might be why it appears to be 6,000.

Is your car a 6spd? If it is the stock rev limit is 6200rpm and an A4 car is 6000rpm stock. If I am not misstaken.

Well that's exactly what happened to me, but I've only raced it a few times so i can only recall doing it once.

Usually the race is over before I hit third.

It's not always the case but most auto manufactorer's set the engines rev limiter a few hundred RPM's below the point of destruction. I'm not saying that the car won't destroy itself after extended redlining but just touching redline for a second won't destroy an engine (Usually). The Redline is basically saying that this is the hight of safe revving
