LS6 Intake and a tune.
Are you an automatic? If so, A stall and tune. If you can swing the LS6 intake as well, Do the three. Stall, LS6 intake, Tune.

No, it will add more then 5 with a full exhaust and a tune. Visit www.tunedbyfrost.com.
Member name here is Frost. He can set you up with a simple mail order tune. The mail order tune is 125 bucks. The intake is anywhere from 250-350.
What suspension do you have done? The remaining 500 (or all for that matter) could go towards sub frame connectors, LCA's, Sway bars etc.

you could always get a cam, but being your daily driver idk if you would want that sound all the time.

Maybe think about going with a 4.11 rearend...??? It was less than a $700 mod for me ($260 gear, $160 rear end girdle, $20 lube, and the remainder in install labor and taxes by a reputable shop in my area and no problems in 12k miles). It was a mod that put a hugh smile on my face the moment I picked it up. I have a 2000 SS 6sp as well and was definiitely my best bang for the buck. I used mine as a daily driver and with the 6sp you can just bump it up a gear so fuel mileage really doesnt suffer much if at all. Do it!! Do it!! Do it!!!

If you do not already have one you should get a lid for it so it can breathe in better to match the breathing out better.
You can always get a stall and a pulley set to free up some HP.
