Make my SS faster
Gonna let my ignorance hang out. I have an 01 SS with 6-speed. SLP lid and Corsa cat back. I want the car to have more power without breaking the bank. Too much. What ideas do you guys and gals have. Tired of gettin a little intimidated by these newer Stangs, Challengers and now the new Maro. Thanks for the help.

A cam swap is going to give you the best bang for the buck. As long as you have the supporting mods with it. Longtube headers are a definite plus! Your intake should be sufficient for a mild streetable cam. Also look into replacing your stock suspension to stiffen everything up. It's not worth spending money on power if you can't get it to the ground properly. Look into upgrading your clutch too before the cam.

So many options. What kind of money do you have to play with?

trickflow 215
afr 205
5.3 ported/milled
You can pick up some nice used heads and a cam kit for under 2g's don't forget about headers.

air box lid, headers, catback, cam with valvetrain upgrades. thats all for power. then go suspension, torque arms, subframe connectors, and shocks springs. i personally would do suspension first though. but all of this should be on the upper end of the budget unless you get some solid deals.

there are a few free mods you can do to improve the car a bit, i would do full bolt on and work on suspension. Especially SFC's and T/A............just my opinion. With the left over cash you can spend it on visual upgrades. Is this your daily driver???

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
Several have already mentioned this and I can't emphasize it enough:WELD-IN SFC'S!
That is unless you want the car to twist into a pretzel.
An anecdote: A friend of mine bought a 2000 SS new. Put 65,xxx hard miles on it driving and at the track. It had H/C/I and a 150 shot to boot. In 2006 he decided to put weld in SFC's on it. Car was so twisted that the guy doing the install had to fab a 1/2" thick spacer for the right rear to be able to weld them in.
It won't make it go faster but it will make it a more solid platform. It's the 1st mod I've done to all 3 of the 4th gens I've owned.

well I went with headers, ory, lid and cold air intake, of course SFC and a 3.42. Still brings a smile
All the guys are right, depends on how deep you want to go.

Get headers and ORY to start before a cam. Then after exhaust get cam and some supporting heads and you will see a huge difference.
But eh SFC's and a stronger rear will be soon on list for reasons stated and your m6 will kill your stock 10bolt rear.

considering you said you want to be "faster" i'm taking it as you want to be faster in a straight line as a priority.. so i'd say do the cam/heads, intake, headers, tune, etc as all mentioned above... and i think the SFC would help especially with the more power torquing the body... and then if you have extra money go buy some sway bars, shocks, springs etc... or just go buy a big meal after you do all the upgrades in celebration
