2001 3.8 Black - sold- 2000 SS Black M6
Huge makeover on my car, with pics part 2
Ok, heres the second part of my post, look at the first if you haven't already seen it
Part 2: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread...25#post1378125
While I was under the hood I pulled out the insulation mat, it was rotten and just fell out when we tugged on it a little, I also installed a strut tower brace, which I for one, noticed a considerable difference.
Ok, so my door handles where faded, and the paint on the key holes had chipped off, so i taped off those and painted them too.. We also added some black vinyl inserts on the trunk, which are holding up well so far.
My door steps were pretty faded as well, so we pulled those out and painted them, it flaked off so I'm redoing it now.
The last thing we did was probably the biggest, I'm sure many of you poor souls with 93-97's get a little peeved at having to open your glove box everytime you want to pop the trunk, I have to do it 5 or 6 times a day, it gets old, so heres what I did about it.
Heres the standard button
I pulled it out, skinned a spot on the wires, and basically hot wired on two more.
I shoved all this back through the hole, and put the original back in its place, so it still works, and from inside the glove box, it looks like nothing happened. then I ran the wires back behind my dash, and down to the cigarette lighter.
I then removed the little plate, dremeled a hole, and added a momentary on/of button, and put it all back together, so I now have a button down by my shifter.
All this called for a little celebration, so heres one more before and after pic, Texas style pork ribs and Ziegenbock.
In all it took my and one of my room mates about 20 hours of work, with standard tools, seriously, we had like, a ratchet set, some screw drivers, and a razor blade.
Total price for all the parts was about $300 I think, the tail light were about $60. the new foglights are cheap aftermarket ones, and about 6 cans of paint at $5 each. The caliper kit was also duplicolor i think, it was $20.
I'd love some feed back, and I'm proud of anyone who made it this far and appreciates my hard work, both in working on the car, and making this post.

Yeah, it wasnt too difficult, took about 2 hours, and thats just because we didnt know how to take the dash apart, once you do that its easy. i did a little soldering, but its not necessary.

Again, nice work. Writeups like this really help out.
The new trunk button is a great idea. That sucks how they put the button behind the glove box. My little yellow button actually fell out so I need to just put a new one in there.
