2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I have had both of these cars:
1996 Z28 vert - best time (stock) 14.2 @ 99
2002 Z28 - best time (stock) 13.6 @ 105
By "stock" I mean just the way I bought it with NO mods at all.....

+ 1 for the looks of the indented headlights! My 97"SS" M6 ran 13.4's.
Though, I don't really care which one is faster!
The 96-97 "SS" started it all, so IMO, it is the best even though may or is slower!
Again, IMO, a BLACK 97"SS" with the hugh Scoop on the hood is the most badass looking F-Body ever produced!!
Sorry to have gotten off of topic!

2000 Camaro SS- 1969 Z28 JL8 crossram, #'
Lots of people think the LS1 front end looks like a catfish and I agree. I think both style of 4th gen front ends look good. I remember reading an article about a 97 1LE Camaro that ran 13.7 in the 1/4 mile. You would have to compare that to a magazine test on a 98 to get their 1/4 mile time. But generally speaking, I think the 9 is probably .3 to .5 quicker.

Arctic White- '00 Camaro M6 SS #3553
I'm not a fan of the actual headlights in the 93-97s, but when I had my '95 I stumbled across Brent Franker's page that showed his PIAA headlight conversion, so I decided to do the same. It was a hassle, but they looked great and I always got compliments on them (not to mention double-takes from cops who noticed my headlights were a bit brighter than standard bulbs, seeing as how they were actually foglights). I'll see if I can find some pictures of it to post if anyone's interested.

Ya I have always thought the 98-02 also look like catfish,,,but even more so I always thought they looked like an overgrown toyota from the front. I hate to relate it to a foreign car but the whole composite headlight thing still hasn't done it for me. Although I recently bought one, it has taken this long (since 98) for me to finally start warming up to them. When they first came out I thought they were ugly. And I still don't care for the plastic lenses, kinda cheap. I would rather have a real glass lense headlight.
I also own a 97 and like it as well. And I own a second gen, and just sold my 3rd gen Iroc,,,to be honest I like them all.
Getting back on topic though,,,,I have ran both my 97 Z-28 convertable and my 02 SS convertable.
The 97 runs 14.20's at 99 mph and the 02 ran a best of 13.78 at 102 mph. Both are bone stock and ran at the same track with nearly identical DA. Not a huge difference in performance but a little.
Both are convertables and my 02 actually weighs more than my 97.
97 is 3550 lbs.
02 is 3620 lbs.
someone earlier made the comment that the LS1 fbodies are lighter,,,,not the case with mine, had them both on the scale. Hope this helps, Larry.
