How long has your LS1 lasted???

Hi guys, new to the fourm. I dreamed of the day I would be able to belong to this board, and the day has finally come. Just bought a 2002 Z28 with 135,000 miles on it. It was taken good care of though, looks really nice, very clean engine bay and car. Just wondering if 135,000 miles is high, anything I should be getting worried about at this point, how many miles do you guys have on yours? The engine runs great but I do notice a ticking sound when I have my driver's side window open...

Anything over 100k is high mileage reguardless of comments to the contrary .. That's why the blue book goes to shit on cars over 100k.. Time for a rebuild imho..

Probably wont have 100k on her for 5-6 years. That's assuming I don't have to do a shitload of work to my house again this summer.

I can't say "I have" these miles, as I didnt buy either one brand new...

but the Y2K has 125k and running damn good still

'99 has 165k, needs a PS pump, thats the only thing mechanically wrong with it, that I know of. It's been through one transmission atleast so far, but it's a B4C so I guess you could say it would be long overdue if it had not had one yet.

Both cars, at a warm idle, in gear (A4s) hold only 25psi or so of oil pressure. I don't like it much, but whatever. I've always been one to keep a constant eye on my gauges no matter what i'm driving.

As for the ticking, I know a good percentage of these cars do that. Especially after cam swaps. I've yet to do one myself, but I'm assuming it could be attributed to using OE pushrods and lifters in some instances I'm no expert, I'm sure someone else will chime in on this, just my two cents

Since this is the last season for my 01 till it's rebirth in the future it will likely never see more than 100k... Only thing left will be the unibody structure itself.. No exterior panel (think carbon copy) will be savaged.. Major changes (need to be) will be made to alot/most of the engineering of how it sits now.... Mechinically not a single piece will be reused.. Prolly not even have a Camaro drive train @ all or @ least no where near it's current setup.. But rest assured guys I have made up my mind.. I have given up on the 3800 idea all together.. Think DOHC v8..

The OP, Welcome! To LS1.com, it's what we do..

I have 214,000 on my motor, and it run like a champ. Now the trans (A4) did not make a 110,000 miles.

My '99 M6 is a daily driver and is near 110,000. No engine issues at all except for the A.I.R. which is about to go bye-bye and be tuned out.

Still has the original clutch. It's weak but still doesn't slip when fully released at low rpm's and labored. Rear-end will likely be the first thing to go. Pinion seal leaks.

I use Pennzoil Platinum 10W30 and change it around 5000-5500 miles. If I go to the later mark it usually is hovering around a quart of oil being used to keep it full.

I'm not abusive to it, but I will rev it out from time to time.

Just under 113k here. Trans shifts very well with no signs of wear. Engine sounds scary at cold startups for the first minute or two. Damn piston slap. Planning an LS6 swap. Other than that car runs and drives great. I'll drive it til it breaks then fix and repeat.

Broke the synchro keys at 12,000 miles so I upgraded the entire T56 at that point.
