So I was just wondering when you guys are really "gettin on it" do your tires chirp when you go into second gear and drop it while your accelerating or not? This is on a 6 speed. I have an 2000 ss 6 speed and it will burn them decently in 1st and when you shift to second nothing... I think my clutch is possibly starting to slip. Any input??

Depends on how hard you are hitting it. When I am racing, shifting into second always chirps my tires.

    Ummm....why not?
An automatic shifts faster than a manual, and with line pressure added, it will hit the gears hard.

To the original poster...it isn't your car that won't allow it. It sounds like the clutch won't allow it.
I don't 'chirp' second either though.

I've never heard of an auto chirping anything. Just mashing it from a stop and getting some chirping thats it...

I hear it all the time. Stock, probably not. With shift kit or increased line pressure, definitely.

My M6 chirps 2nd and 3rd no problem. If I turn the traction control off it lays down some seroius rubber in 2nd.

my 98 a4 used to chirp on the shift to 2nd gear (no 3rd). That is of course with the shift kit enabled on the pcm and without manual shifting.

... though on warm days with sticky tires not so often.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there only like a 500 - 1000 rpm drop from gear to gear? Does that mean if you don't shift fast enough that you essentially wont be able to chirp gears?

in a manual it is the mixture of torque from engine rpms and how quick you let the clutch go. that power impulse will break the tires loose, if that force is larger than the friction of the tires on the pavement. it's not really about fast shifting.

The A4 tranny on the 02 is stock but has had torque management tuned out and the line pressure increased. It hits pretty hard for a stocker. Heck, when it downshifts automatically (when I mash the loud pedal) at anything under 20 mph the tranny backshifts to 1st and the car starts burning rubber and fishtailing with the stock tires on it. I always let the pcm do the shifting.

Next month I'm installing a Fuddle 3400 stall and having my mechanic (he specializes in transmissions) do some mods to the tranny so it'll live.

FWIW, car has CAI, LT's, TD's with MagnaFlows dumped at the axle and 3.73 gears. It's also been dyno tuned and put down 343rwhp and 357rwt.

Mine has done something similar on occasion its an A4 V6. if im getting on it very hard, the rear end gets loose at about 4500 rpms, but that lets off the tension and my car shifts to to second. It does it just enough that i feel the back end step out a little.
