factory options
I have a 1998 ss, with the slp intake and exhaust which are options on the slp camaro, so they do not require no have a carb sticker if i'm correct. The car past smog no problem but I got the city's favorite cop(he's know county wide for impounding and ticketing people for anything and everything) the other day and he wrote me a smog violation ticket that would make me go to the state ref and pay. I want to try to go to court and show the judge that these were factory options. Not having too much luck so I wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions where to look or if anyone actually had anything? Thank you for the time guys.

an intake would not make you fail smog
as for the exhaust, what kind is it? Dual/dual was stock on some cars. Unless you dont have cats i dont think he had the right to write you up.

If it is an SLP option, the GM inquiry will return no results. Those were installed after the factory at SLP.
But agreed with tater... If you still have your OEM converters on, there is no way that cop can write you up. I'd fight this one.

There was no SLP intake available from the factory in 1998. Airlids did not exist at that point. The only possible power producing option was the SLP Dual Dual exhaust. Even so All SLP equipment is CARB legal in all 50 states.

When you buy an aftermarket part that is smog legal they usually come with a sticker with the carb exempt number that you can place under the hood. If they are slp parts call them and see if they can get you the stickers or have them email/fax you a copy of the numbers.

Well can't they smog test the vehicle? If incorrect, excuse my ignorance since I live in a state that doesn't have those kinds of laws.

Realisticaly the emissions laws are nation wide, where as you can not remove any emissions equipment. The difference is whether the laws are enforced and the fact that Mi. doesn't do any AET testing anymore (hasn't since 1996) so we have little to worry about.
The only way to violate smog laws in most states would be removal of EGR (if equipped) AIR and removal or movement of the cats from their original location.
Also keep in mind your states decibel limit laws when replacing the catback.
I suggest poking around on SEMA's web site and find out your rights as an auto enthsiast. http://www.sema.org/
Bottom line is a lid and a catback whether factory or aftermarket will not effect emissions.
