dude run a paper filter. reasons:

    1. cheaper
    2. oiled filters fuck with your maf
    3. oiled filters dont filter like they "claim" to
    4. you wont gain enough power to justify the price and the damage it'll cause to yo motah
    5. paper filters filter better and protect yo motah
    6. if you want the best get an amsoil air Ea filter OR the AEM dryflow

    Just like blue 02 said....
Now power gains over a paper filter
Costs 10x as much as a paper filter
PITA to Re-oil and all that crap
Oil gets into the Maf and throttle body and causes codes, mis fires and your car to run like crap.
    I just dont like them...
Its all my opinion but you wont find a Oil'd filter in any of my cars... I played that game and threw in the towel.

I've got 160k on an LT1 Impala SS, have the full K&N intake, no issues at all.

K&N 33-2018 is a better fit in the LT1 SS airbox.
I have been using this filter for over 130,000 miles without problems.

The SS air filter is not the same size as the standard LT1.

So if someone gets an aftermarket intake, they shouldn't use a filter?
I havent seen any paper filters in cone shapes.

I think I have my brothers 97 ss filter sitting in the basement. when I head to my parents next I'll check. He wrecked his car at mosport back in 2001 so there are parts all over the house.

I have the same K&N also and love it, I could have found it a little cheaper on ebay, but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it at here. K&N 57-3010-1, or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install and I love it.
