If you have found one for $300-400, that is as cheap as you will find it, if you can find one. They are not cheap, they are not easy to come across. If you want one, you are going to have to pay for it, plain and simple.

And yes, I have one, so I am speaking from experience.

True. They are very hard to find. And if you find it is not cheap at all.
The tips are expensive. And the valance is expensive.
I barely got mine on Wednesday.
I dint want to pay alot. But I had no choice.
The CME looks great. IMO it's worth it

When it comes to some of the harder to find stuff,,,,you'll have to open that wallet As they get older, it will only get more expensive too. If you find one and need it,,,I'd get it while you can and just bite the bullet.

Try restoring an SCJ mustang, or a 69 Z. Date coded OEM parts will make you faint and even correct reproductions require a second mortgage,,,,just sayin'

Ah okay,,,ya a real ZL1 engine complete should fetch more than that. A buddy of mine just finished his, the bare block was a reproduction from GM (they are making the blocks again) and even that was $4,000.
A real date coded block,,,be ready to bend over Unfortunately they are not reproducing the aluminum heads,,,and finding an original set that is servicable is another pricey hurdle. Just the correct carb will set ya back $1,500-$2,000.

When you figure a real ZL1 camaro, restored correctly fetches about $150K right now,,,the engine itself doesn't look so bad eh??
And $150K is cheap right now,,,,just 2 years ago when the market was better they were $250K and beyond.

    ok guys....back to CMEs

but these other guys are right, if you've found them for 300-400, you've done pretty well, especially if its an OEM one and not reproduction

be careful on the tips though, a lot of people have remade them, and tweaked the sizes...make sure you get the right ones or anyone who knows anything will know they arent real.

the tips are very close for the most part i have seen about 3 different non oem ones here are some pics.

as you can see the only real difference is the one support vs the 2, and that on the oem slp one is that it it a little straighter across. the after market ones kinda angles back a little. the back part where you would see from the rear of the car.
if i didn't get the slp one i would have use the polished one it looked real good.

The reinforced bar is a good addition though. On my OEM, I went ahead and added a support bar similiar to the one pictured.
