    CME Exhaust

hey guys, what do I have to do to put this kind of exhaust on my Z?
does it require the rear valence being changed?

does it look ok w/ no visible exits??

it probably sounds bad ass though

Exhaust exit on camaros of this vintage is it's only minor downfall in my opinion. The only thing that looks good to me is the CME as you have said yourself.
Otherwise the bumper has no contour for pipe fitment or to hide anything.

CME is expensive to do, and hard to find. So this isn't an option for most people.

You sound like someone that will want something custom. Might not be a bad idea to stop at a local custom exhaust shop and see what they have done in the past and what ideas they may have.

Dumping in front of the axle is an option,,,but I personally don't care for it. With all the excellent quality cat backs out there, there is something for just about everyone in sound and performance.
These cars weren't really designed for dumping in front of the axle,,,since the floor pans were not designed to install a pair of mufflers in that location,,,so ground clearance can be a problem. All of them I have seen hang rather low when viewing from behind,,,doesn't look that great to me.
You can get away with it when very small bullet style mufflers are used,,,but that means more noise as well, and interior resonance is excessive,,,,for a daily driver this may get old in a hurry.

All things to consider,,,,it may be for you. Check around here, at one time there were alot of pics of exhaust systems.

that's what the previous owner had put on it....

i mean it looks ok with the RS kit, but i don't really think it fits in too well...

This is a photoshop, but something I really wish GM had offered for the 4th gen Camaro's:

The CME is probably the 2nd best appearance mod I did for my Camaro. I am not much of a fan for the quad tip CME's offered by aftermarket, but you really can't go wrong by doing a CME on a Camaro. I agree with what Larry said with this comment:

"Exhaust exit on camaros of this vintage is it's only minor downfall in my opinion. The only thing that looks good to me is the CME as you have said yourself.

Pontiac planned for this on the TA's, Chevy should have done the same with the Camaro's.

Thats very creative Y2K,,,,,I like it. It's amazing how different the rear of these cars look with a small valance panel to hide the exhaust,,,,with subtle tips coming out,,,,it's what these cars really need.

I never understood why GM did it for the T/A's and didn't do the camaros......Thanks for those pics Y2K,,,very interesting.

yah I'm going to have to agree with everyone abou the exhaust exit being the only downside of these camaros. I've owned sever birds old and new, and some old camaros. i love the way my camaro looks even compared to my formy. but they should make an insert like the trans ams have to hide the exhaust.

    does cme sound bad ass?

I got mine from someone on here, and from e-bay. You can find it out there cheap...just gotta look in the right spots! Im excited to put it on, been waiting forever to get one. Just need to get the damn lift in the shop.....

I've got 2 4th gens,,,one with CME and one without. There is no sound difference to me,,,,,that really comes down to what muffler you want to use in my opinion.

Eric @ Surface mods might possible be able to make that. He already makes the CME valence.

I had CME exhaust on from the factory but ended up dumping the exhaust until the cops got me for it. Now I have it exiting the car from the side right infront of the rear tires.
