Can't Fight The Itch
'72 Corvette Stingray

Don Lachapelle
Cincinnati, OH

Don LaChapelle has owned this super-clean machine for about four years, but it only took him two months to decide to turn the so-so driver into the musclecar he always wanted. Aside from the bodywork and paint, Don did everything himself in his garage in just over two years, and he's been tearing up the backroads of Ohio ever since.

Not satisfied with the stock powerplant, Don dropped in a ZZ502 deluxe crate motor coupled to a Tremec TKO600 with some 3.55s in the back. Three-inch pipe connects the Headman Jet Hots to a set of Flowmaster Super40 mufflers that growls at any would-be challengers. But this ride can do more than straight lines, with plenty of suspension upgrades and a beefy brake setup. So step lively when you see this shark on the streets of Cinci, because there's plenty of go under those show-car looks.
Mean Green
'70 Chevelle SS

Carlo Rizzo
Brampton, ON, Canada

This mean-looking Chevelle is powered by a 0.030-over 454 that Carlo stuffed with KB pistons, a big Comp Cams 'stick, an Edelbrock intake, an MSD ignition, and an A.E.D.-prepped Holley carburetor. Carlo kept everything under the hood appearing as factory as possible and even retained the factory-style hose clamps. For evening cruises, the rearend retains the standard 3.31:1 12-bolt cog. Shifting duties are handled with a modified TH400 three-speed automatic trans. The hot-looking wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust IIs wearing Goodyear F1 rubber measuring 275/40ZR17 front and 315/35ZR17 rear. To date, the best e.t. is a 12.40 at 112 mph.
Classic Ride
'66 Chevelle SS 396

Jack Smith
La Crescent, MN

Jack Smith has not only owned this fantastic Chevelle for more than 25 years, but he has only put 42,000 miles on the odometer! The SS 396 cruiser is equipped with a four-speed trans, a black vinyl top, mirror-straight black paint, and a set of Cragar SS wheels. Jack's wife Margaret tells us the original motor has been tucked away in favor of a much stouter mill that propels the A-body down their local dragstrip.
Black & Blue
'68 Camaro

Gary Nau
Kenosha, WI

Under the bulging cowl-induction hood of Gary's Camaro lurks a 454 Rat motor with a thumping Comp cam that yields 0.574/0.578 inch lift. Other equipment includes an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and cylinder heads. Fuel is sprayed from a Holley 850-cfm carburetor and a Mallory distributor, and the MSD 6AL ignition box ignites the mixture. Gears are selected from a stock Muncie four-speed that transfers the motivation to the original 12-bolt rearend, which has been fitted with 3.73:1 gears and stronger Moser axles.
Power Grab
'70 Chevelle

Monte Dinnell
Fox Lake, IL

Monte's Chevelle packs a 540-inch powerhouse that cranks out over 800 nitrous-fed, dyno-proven horses. The Chevelle sits on American Racing Torque Classic rims that measure 17x8 and 17x11 with a wide set of 245/45R17s up front and 315/35R17s in the back. Tranny of choice is a TH400, while the 4.11:1 gears bring up the rpm in a hurry. On the outside, Hot Rod Haus sprayed layers of the unnamed silver in order to achieve its killer shine.
