Car Surges When Idling Help Please!

I bought a 98 z28 about 6 months ago.The car ran excellent but a few weeks ago it started to idle stragely. It idles ok a few secs then surges(like a rough idle) then back to normal then surges again over and over. It has perfect acceleration when I give it gas and runs fine but the idle problem is bugging me. The car has 66,000 miles on it and I know the guy never put plugs on it or wires. The check engine light isnt on either. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do about it/look for?? Has anyone of you had this problem?

    Thank you----mike

Replace the plugs and wire, then inspect all vacuum lines for dry rot and cracks.

Also make sure that your air filter is clean and all of the throttle body crap is clean. I had a LT1 that did the same thing (idle surge) and all it needed was a air filter and the throttle body sprayed and cleaned.

    surging

I had a 95 Z28 that did that, it was either the mass air had slipped off slightly or the IAC needed cleaned.GOOD LUCK!

Yes, take it off to clean it. Use non-residue electrical cleaner. Clean the IAT sensor while you're at it. Also, change your fuel filter.
