Hmmmmm, does your car have any mods already? If not, then there are a few things to consider:

1 - Do you have to do an annual smog inspection? if so then consider what is and is not "legal".

2 - You want to put power to the ground. All the HP and Torque in the world does no good if it isn't harnessed.

3 - Your 1st mod should be weld in sub frame connectors (SFC). This doesn't make the car go any faster but it will keep it so the doors will close down the road as they keep the body from twisting. They will also help in weight transfer and planting the tires.

4 - You might want to put an LS6 intake on it. These are found on 2001 and 2002 Camaros and are a big improvement over the LS1 intake.

5 - Next up would be a good set of headers and a better exhaust system.

6 - At this point you might want to think about a stronger adjustable aftermarket torque arm (TA).

7 - Now that you've got "supporting mods" you can think about a cam.

BTW, what tranny do you have? A4 or M6? This will also determine what gear ratio you have.

the only mods are an exhaust and a performance chip, its an A4 tranny. i am considering buying a K&N intake for it first. yeah ive got the smog testing. I just purchased the car a week ago, how do i know if i already have the SFC i believe i might. the car was a south carolina state patrol car so i know it has some basic things done to it to make it safe for the police. The department of public safeties had a performance chip put into it and an exhaust

Your car does not have a "chip". The PCU is an EEPROM and, as such, you would use a programmer (HP Tuners, LS1 Edit, etc) to flash changes as you make them.

What type of exhaust? Does it still have the cast iron exhaust manifolds?

By K&N intake are you referring to the air cleaner? As in K&N FIPK?

As an A4 your car will have either a 2.73 or a 3.23 rear gear. Look on the drivers door for the option codes (3 number alpha numeric stuff). GU2 = 2.73; GU4 = 3.23. The 3.23's also have an aluminum driveshaft.

yeah it still has the cast iron manifolds. i was talking to a local tuner and he told me that he could get me a K&N intake that would replace the existing one now yes i believe it is the air cleaner. it is a GU5 which is the 3.23. is it better to have the 3.23. also how can i tell if i have the SFC already

Sorry, I must not have seen all you wrote in post #3.

So what you have is a B4C not a Z28. B4C is the option code for a cop car. Don't worry, it's a Z28 in everything but name only. Several of my friends (including my mechanic) have B4C's. He also has a 9C1 (Caprice version of a cop car. He likes old cop cars). This would also explain why you have a hardtop.

    2.73 = more top end; 3.23 = faster accelleration

There is a website containing all this info. I'll find it and post it.

I doubt it has SFC's but you can check anyway. They would be welded in between the front and rear frame stubs. This is easier to check if it's on a lift.

DPS might have flashed a performance program but they would've had to have reflashed a stock program in order to resell it to the public (most likely at option).

Try this site. Apparently thery made only 254 B4C's in 2000.

3.23's may be GU5. I've never been sure about that.

Different mods cost varying amounts of $$$.

Like the sign sez, "Speed is just a question of money. How fast can you go?"

Do you know what movie that is from?

Basically, how much $$$ have you got to spend? This will determine what you can do. If it was me I'd just be glad I had it, learn how to drive it (performance wise) and save $$$ for what you want.

I would say for 300 get an intake and leave it at that. but SFC should be put on soon after.

You should change your car type to B4C. As you've seen, they're rarer than a Z28. They're are a few B4C owners floating around on this site.
