I fit 315's on a set of 17x9.5 and they fit really nice. Rub a little on the inside of the wheel well but nothing a BFH can't fix.

Now, for the bad news- bigger tires (better traction) + stock rear end = shattered posi.

This...goes for the front as well. They actually fit better in the front with the right backspacing and proper rim.

Im running 295s on 18x10.5s in the front, no rubbing, bolted right up.

why are you asking about the front? i was under the impression the front wheel wells had more room than the rears. i honestly dont know why i thought that.

I'd stay around the 265-285 range for the front, but that's just personal preference. I have 275 on the a 17x9.5 on the front and really wish the wheel was a 9" so that there was a little more sidewall.

Something I've noticed is that not all 275 series tires are the same. Some have more section width (or sidewall width) and tread width than others, even though the numbers are the same.

I've had some where the sidewall shoots straight up from the rim lip, leaving the rim exposed,,,something I don't care for. I've had other brand tires that bulge out pretty far from the rim lip, giving the rim at least some form of protection. All the while using the same 275-40/17 size tire with the factory 17" SS wheels.

Check out the brands closely and pay attention to the actual measured tread and section width in the detailed descriptions. They all aren't made the same.

I currently run BFG's on both cars, but different versions of the BFG's, and they both fit the wheels completely different even though they are both 275-40/17's.
One is the BFG G-Force Comp T/A's (M&S version) and they don't have any sidewall buldge at all, completely perpendicular to the wheel lip.
My other car has BFG G-Force Sports, and they have a solid 1 inch buldge of side wall that protrudes out from the rim lip. I feel a little better about it since my wife drives that car, gives at least some cushion if she happens to rub a curb.

I pesonally dont put bigger than 275s on the front. Anything bigger makes the car feel like your driving a slug around corners.

I'll agree, you don't need anything bigger than 275, which fits nicely on a 17x9.5" rim.

I ran 285-40/17's all the way around on another 4th gen. Firestone Wideovals to be exact, it was the only manufacture I found still making that size. I liked the fact that they were just a tad taller and filled the wheel wells up a bit more, but I also like the extra sidewall width they provided, not only rim protection, but cosmetically as well. Nothing looks worse than a tire that looks lost on the wheel in my opinion.

I never noticed any difference what so ever in how the car drove
