Another F-Body sent2 the grave!
August 11, 2006 at 8:45PM (1997 Camaro SS #3039)
Fuel line got cut and caught fire
I was leaving my friends house and was going through an S-turn and as I was exiting the last turn, a pickup truck decided to cut the turn into my lane. I had nowhere to go. I was going 45-50 and he was going 45. Its like hitting a wall at 90mph. I got trapped in the car. T-tops were off, good thing I had my seat belt on. I broke my jaw, both of my ankles and the door sliced my arm all up. My left foot was trapped in the floor and my right was stuck under the pedals. They untied both my shoes and pulled me out after they cut the roof off and what was left of the door. The airbag never went off. After he hit me, my car skidded 40" into a telephone poll. Right now, writing this, I am shaking! Just thought I would share what I went through.Last edited by 9t8z28; 01-09-2007 at 02:02 PM.

I am just starting to be able to walk again. The best thing about it is that I felt no pain. As they were cutting me out of the car, no pain, cause I don't remember. I woke up 2 weeks later(heroin induced coma) with 2 casts and my jaw wired shut. What really sucks is I don't even remember my $13,000 Helicopter ride!

This is kind of a wakeup call to me. Sorry to hear about your car though man. Just recently i wrecked mine. I had a bad ABS sensor and my dumbass was still doin 90 on the freeway and somone cut me off and i locked up. car fishtailed a little bit but i couldnt hold it down. she looped on me and i ended up spinning around i cought it but i was rolling backwards then and i kinda slid sideways and smacked the center divide with the whole right side of my car. Almost totaled it but the insurance got it fixed and me and my friend that was with me waled away from it. I didnt feel to lucky until just now when i saw yours. I somehow didnt even hit any other cars.

Get this! The day of the accident, me and my buddy installed headers and true duals. While the car was on the lift, the steering wheel got turned to far. There is a coil for the airbag in the steering column. If you turn the wheel to far while the linkage is disconnected, it will break the coil. Thats why it didn't go off. The airbag would have been deflated by time I hit the telephone pole and I still would have broken my jaw.

Okay, I figured that was the date but wanted to be sure. I thought it might have been the date that full photo of your car was taken. Again, you are one lucky guy to have gotten through that one. I've totalled three Camaros in my day (1994 Z28, 1999 Z28 and 2000 Z28). All three times the air bags deployed and I only had minor injuries and such.

Thanks man, I feel your pain too. I was just getting out of a wheelchair while surfing this site when you posted your wrecked Camaro.
I bought a red 1998 Z28 6-speed a month after my accident. The thing that sucked was my dad had to test drive it. Oh, well, he new what he was doing, after all he taught me how to drive!
I didn't get to drive it for about 3 months being in a wheelchair and all!
THAT REALLY PISSED ME OFF! But I got to ride in it!

Onyx Black- 2001 SS Camaro
My jaw dropped when I saw the pics. I knew from the pic of your shoe, there was nothing good that happened to the person in the driver's seat. I am glad those were the only injuries you recieved. I broke my ankle in two places, falling off a machanical bull. The x-ray showed two breaks in South Carolina and the next day (GOD is good!) in North Carolina, x-rays showed one break! We (all that have survied accidents) are blessed. It could have been my neck... I shutter at the thought! I hope to meet you one day. Are you going to continue to drive? What is the next car you are thinking of getting (if so)?
