Accurate DYNO #'s?
So I have recently been looking at getting an SS. I found one in my area. It's a 2000 Camaro SS 6spd. Has exhaust, chip? and tune...It dyno'd at 340rwhp...Is this possible? Does the "chip" do that much? What exactly does it do? Thanks for any help!

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
2000's did not have a "chip". You can access the PCM (Powertrain Control Module - this is the computer that controls the engine, tranny, etc.) with a variety of programs (HP Tuners and LS1 edit + others) to alter factory settings. This will allow the tuner to alter timing, fuel tables, and all the other things that the PCM controls. 340 rwhp isn't unusual after a dyno tune, especially if the car has a few supporting mods (i.e., CAI & exhaust).

sounds high, unless the exhaust includes LT's. have them produce a dyno sheet...
i agree with 67rs/ss...unless the car is tuned you dont see those high of numbers...

The car is tuned though...Is a chip something the dyno tuners put into the PCM to increase power?

READ MY LIPS: Your car DOES NOT have a chip! Those items (chip) were used in 3rd gens to alter the computer's programming. They were a PROM (Programmable Read Only Memory) type of device that was necessary because the car's PCM was not accessible for altering with another device (i.e., a "tuner"). 4th gens, on the other hand (not sure about 93 as they are speed density vs MAF) DO have a computer with an EEPROM (Electronicly Eraseable PROM) that can be accessed for altering of the cars powertrain values. This is known as "flashing" (downloading new values) the PCM and it's how the car is "tuned" these days.
FYI: This could only be done with the releasing or cracking of the car's PCM computer codes. Otherwise it couldn't be done. For example, the 6.1 liter Mopar Hemi's code hasn't been cracked nor has Chrsyler released the code. Consequently, the engine's operating parameters can't be changed.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 08-17-2007 at 09:51 AM.

By way of example, my 02 Z has QTP LT's, deleted cats, 3" ORY and a CAI. After dyno tuning and reprogramming with HP Tuners I achieved 343 rwhp and 357 rwt.
