I think between M6 or A4. M6 is funner to drive by far obviously. I have a M6 with t-tops and I love that combo.

I think for me, it would depend on what I wanted the car for. If you plan on building it for the track, go with an A4. You will have better times, and better consistency.

As far as the trans, both are pretty solid from what I know. Obviously the M6, in the even of failure, is both easier and cheaper to upgrade/rebuild.

Ls1 > Lt1 every day of the week.

Ttops are usually the popular choice. Verts are nice but tend to weigh a little more than a hard top or ttop fbod.

It all boils down to personal preference. What do YOU want?

Lt1 has a little more torque off idle, Ls1 pulls hard at higher rpm. As far as t tops and vert its personal choice. I personaly like Auto's for Drag strip time, You cant out shift a computer but M6's are a tad bit more fun to drive if your not in traffic.
At the end of the day its your call bud, just shop around and find the best deal.

I remember my friend rebuilt his and it was not cheap (M6).

My A4, built to hold (500rwhp) only cost me 1200, plus stall is about 2000, depending on the company you go with.

His M6 cost more than 2000 and it still broke on him. He's selling it to go with an auto conversion.

Just sharing my stories, get what you want.

i got an auto after having two 5speeds (yeah they were v6s, so what? you wanna fight about it?) anyways i like the auto for ease of driving here in town, but when i go on road trips back home to the wide open country roads i'd love to have a manual again, also people take you less serious when you tell them its a 4 speed auto. check my signature for what i like to tell them..

also one of my favorite things about the auto is that i can hold my girl while driving instead of having to play with my stick the whole time,

The M6 is more fun to drive, however for driving around me, its nice to have the A4, plus its more consistent when i do open it up. either way is a good choice, just make sure its bolted to an ls1

    Fun factor = t-tops, m6
    Track = A4, coupe

This is why my SS is a couple a4. Love it.

Likewise, well when I get it back together.

M6's skip shift or stuck in traffic traits suck ass though.

M6 will equal you losing to A4s all the time then using following excuses,
I over revved, i missed the shift, my tires are bald and blah blah blah blah blah

I love my A4 now..however factory....not much fun.. blew a stall and ruined thr tranny.. 1700 bucks and the price of the yank SS 3600 its now a bad ass tranny. Solid build, Custom shift kit and the 3600 stall its fun to drive when ya want it to be but everyday driving is still smooth and easy. The M6 will sure light em up tho!!

Rebuilt a friends t3650(5 speed) out of his 02 stang gt, cost was 300 in parts and we did all the labor. Parts were stock gears, with upgraded synchros and shift fork plates, Tranny has held good for the past year going mid 12s on motor and mid 11s on a 100 shot.

I like my coupe, lots less sunlight to get through on hot fl days
Not all but some Ttop cars tend to leak, verts have tricky trunk setups so a simple sub box wouldn't work. Going by experience an M6 would probably have been beaten on a little more, most of the abuse tends to land in the hands of the 10-bolt. In the end the tranny choice ends up being what do you use the car for.

    Been said before but
    M6 - Fun, Street, Showoff
A4 - Consistency, Track, Can be fun (especially with a stall)

my car is m6, ttops.. i love it... i love being on windy back roads and shifting and pulling through curves, i dont think i'd be as happy with the auto..

also, the m6 obviously gives more control over the car for worse or better... its been said you will lose to a4 on the track.. but its more fun trying to beat a computer with your skill... or atleast thats how i look at it instead of just putting your foot to the floor and winning, whats the fun in that?

as for the ttops, i have not had any problems with leaking as of yet, that is the only possible drawback i can see from it. i prefer the ttops because i feel safer than a convert and you basically get the same openess on a nice day
